Hi! I haven't wrote in a while, because honestly everything has been going great and I have been so busy. However, I have noticed this past week I have really wanted food and have been able to eat a lot more than before. I even put on a pound this morning!! (So far I have lost 50!!!! So I have been super excited and going strong!) Now, I am so nervous that I am going to stretch my stomach out and just start putting it on. How long does it take for the hunger to go away? I thought this surgery was suppose to remove some of the hormone for hunger...?

This surgery is so great but it is still just a "tool". A tool you can use to help you with your weightloss journey. You still have to watch what you eat and you still need to exercise to be healthy. Grehlin, that wonderful hormone(waste product) that dictates how our appetites play out is greatly reduced by this surgery but it doesn't remove all of it and the stomach isn't the only place in our bodies that produces it. We all have different appetites(amounts of grehlin) and that can change based on any number of variables, such as that time of the month, exercise, how long you wait before you eat, etc.

This surgery doesn't have malabsorption so every calorie ingested is used as fuel or stored as fat. I just do the best I can with my tool and trust most of my calories are getting used for fuel. ;-)

You will be fine. Research Grehlin on the internet and you can find out more about it.

For some people, the hunger does go away....but for the rest of us, we still have our appetite, still feel those hunger pains and cant wait to eat again... some of us also can eat alot more than others. For me... I feel hungry alot and have always been able to eat more. I dont know if Dr. Joya makes our tummies larger or not...but Ive always felt that mine had to be larger than most.. So, what I do is.... I diet!  I always heard that after this surgery, Id never have to diet again....well, that wasnt true in my case. Its very easy for me to gain weight, even now....so I have to really be careful.
Just take it day by day...and watch what u eat, drink more water..I do notice that when I dont drink enough water, I dont lose as much as I could.
Congrats on losing the 50!  thats great!

I am really concerned about this hunger thing. I do not expect to have no willpower after the operation but I do expect the hunger to be deminished somewhat.

Are there any people out there who feel there hunger has changed permanantly since their surgery.

You might want to ask that one as a new topic question. Mine has definitely changed and I feel permanently. I get hungry when I go too long without eating or I exercise a lot.

I have to remind myself to eat, becauase I don't feel hungry unless I go hours and hours without food.

I also measure everything I eat, and am learning to eat slowly at all times.

If you measure everything, eat slowly, and refuse to drink liquids with your meals, the chances of stretching out your stomach are very minimal.  If you don't do those things, well then it's in your hands..

My appetite, as well as my cravings, have completely changed. And even if it's not permanent, the fact that I will never be able to eat as much as I use to...is permanent! I have noticed that I am more hungry during "my time of the month" and seem to be able to hold more. But still...it's nothing like I use to eat.

I've also read on here that when some ppl feel really hungry that that's when they need to take those PPI drugs. You know like the Nexium, Pepsid and such. If your stomach is creating alot of acid it will make you feel hungrier, just a thought.

Wow, 50 pounds gone.  Congratulations!

I am one of the people who still has NO hunger after 15 months.  I do sometimes have 'head hunger' or cravings.  For me, the best way to handle this is by making a good choice for a snack, such as cheese or jerky or nuts.  Sometimes, I give in to the actual craving and eat 3-4 oreos or whatever it is, then I feel sick and don't do that again for a long time!

I wouldn't worry about the pound you gained, it'll probably be gone by tomorrow.
