Discouraged with weight loss 2 months out
I had surgery on 8/18. So it has been 2 months and I have lost 32 pounds. I am greatful for that, however, in the last 2 weeks I have lost not 1 single pound and I am worried that I wont lose anymore or that may be I am doing something wrong. I have been exercising though not consistently. I think I am consuming about 600 to 800 calories per day. Has anybody out there experienced the same stall around 2 months out, and if so, how long does it last?
Thanks, Dee
Hi! I think you are doing great!!! Some people loose faster than other or slower I think everyone is different :).
Are you drinking all your water?, that helps!. Also when experiencing a stall I try go give my body or metabolism an impact.. I do that by getting more calories in and then lower them, I hear some other people doing the same... some other try the 5 day pouch test ad that kind of restores the pouch!.
Am not of much help but others will write soon trying to help you!
Cheer up you are doing awesome!!!! :)

Aloha Dee- Your rate of loss depends on many things- most importantly your starting weight and BMI. I had 180 pounds to lose and started with a BMI of 54, I'm bound to lose faster than someone who only has half that weight to lose. Stalls are normal and should be expected as your body composition changes. You should be tracking all your calories ( "I think I'm consuming about 600-800 calories per day") but especially protein (getting in 70+g?) and carbs ( less than 30g?, no bread-pasta-rice?) and water ( over 64oz?). If you are a lightweight ( reading your profile makes me think this) then losing 32 lbs is almost half of what you wanted to lose, and that's FAST in 2 months!. Good luck- XOLori
Thanks for replies. Yes, I guess I would be considered a lightweight. I started out with a BMI of 39 and weight of 239 lbs. As far as calories, I find it so hard to keep track of how many per day. As for bread, some times have a slice of low-cal whole wheat, and no rice, no pasta either. My goal is to weigh 149 and so with the 32 already lost I still have another 58 lbs to go. May be I just need to be more patient, I'm just scared that I may not reach my goal.
Hey Dee! Stalls are very normal! I went through a 4 week stall and thought I was a failure at WLS too. Keep drinking your water, getting in you protein, and your numbers will start going down again I promise! Your body is adjusting to all the shock. Get a tape measure out and start recording that. You'll see on your stall times that your actually losing inches. Someone on these OH boards told me that and I thought it sounded crazy, but it was true! You will reach goal if you keep up with your water and protein. I have learned they are the key to keeping the weightloss going. When I slack off on those my weight stays the same. You are doing great!!
"failing to plan is planning to fail"
I had surgery 10 days after you. I lost 16 lbs between my pre-op and post-op appointments. When I went back for my 2nd post-op appt. a month later I had only lost 9 lbs. My doc said that was good and if I lost faster I could get sick. I was hoping to lose a little faster though although I did lose 29 lbs before surgery
I am in the habit of weighting myself every day and keeping a journal of weight, BP and blood sugar. (I had to do this after a heart problem). I would seem as though my weight stayed the same forever and then all of a sudden it would go down a couple of lbs.
I know I don't get enough protein or water consistently and I think that is one reason I am losing slowly. Doc said to try to get 1000 calories a day. I am not making it most of the time.
Another thing, are you taking your measurements. Most of the time when the scales are not moving you are still losing inches. It is your body trying to adjust to the previous weight loss.
The bottom line is try not to get discouraged the scales will start to move soon.
Hugs
Rita

Dee, Smile and be glad you aren't me! LOL. I am almost 3 months out and have only lost 27 pounds. The hardest thing for me to adjust to is TRYING not to compare myself to others. I have to constantly remind myself that this is not a race and that everyone loses at their own pace. I follow all the rules: get the protein, choke down the fluids, exercise, limit carbs, etc and my weight does it's own thing.
That being said, I am an optimist so I always look for the silver lining. On the plus side:
1. I've only had one stall (at 7 weeks...not the 3rd week like most)
2. my stall only lasted one week
3. I have lost no hair!
4. my loss my be slow but it is very steady (1 to 1.5 pounds per week)
5. I started at a 20W and am now a 12.
Remember my motto: one pound at a time but each pound lost forever
So celebrate what you have lost and be happy that you aren't the slowest loser. Look for your own silver linings and stay positive!

Yes, almost bang on 2 months lost nothing for 2 weeks, even showed a slight gain and then it went down nearly 4lbs. Just trust that it is going to work, you will still be losing inches even if you don't lose lbs every week. I am relaxed enough now not to worry if I don't show a loss at my weekly weigh in! Marion.

If you're the type that gets easily discouraged, I would say don't weigh yourself daily. I weigh myself daily but I only post on my tracker at my monthly surgiversary and mid month. Otherwise, I would probably be disappointed. Here's my weight loss per month but it is not always a good idea to compare ourselves to others. I consider my weight loss good.
