WLS Books

Hi All:

I'm in the midst of the process to have VSG..I've been accepted into my Kaiser program, I have an orientation this weekend, doc appointments soon, etc.

I've read LOADS of stuff on this board, volumes of research, etc.  I've finished reading WLS for Dummies.  Are there any suggested books that accurately depict WLS patients' experiences?  There are several on Amazon, but I just wanted some input from OH people who have read them.  I do realize that they are all about RNY/DS/BAND, but I think the experiences are probably fairly similar.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Terri

Hi there!

I am still pre op but I am a research fanatic so I have been reading everything I can get my hands on.  I would highly recommend Before & After by Susan Maria Leach.  She had the RNY procedure but it details her life in the first year. I think it is very realistic and pertains to any WLS.  It also has tons of recipes.  I didn't love The Real Skinny on WLS.  It had good information I just didn't like the style it was written in.  Just my two cents.  Welcome and have a wonderful day!

Kimberly

Oh yeah, make sure you get the revised edition of the Leach book.

I read both Carnie Wilson books detailing what she went thru after RNY and I enjoyed reading them.  Best of luck to ya!

Thanks Debbie, I'll have to look into it.  I like Carnie Wilson, I watched her on Celebrity Fit Club a couple of years back.

Barbara Thompson wrote one called Weight Loss Surgery: Finding the Thin Person Inside You. I've seen it listed on half.com for about $10 plus 3 something to ship. Good Luck! XOLori

I'd be interested too. I wasn't too thrilled with WLS for Dummies. They kind of smooshed all the different WLS types together and some of the info is already out of date.

I liked The Emotional First + Aid Kit: A Practice Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery.

I'd like to read more but I haven't found anything in the Bookstores and I'm leary of spending more money on Amazon for WLS books I'm sorry I bought.
