Tattoo's after VSG
My DH is a professional tattoo artist. As far as he knows, there really aren't any restraints on getting tattooed post surgery (whether a WLS or any other)... but it might be a good idea to wait a little while, after you've lost a significant portion of your weight, because we never know what our skin is going to do . Everybody's skin is so different. I plan on waiting until I'm at goal until I get him to do some work on me, just for that reason. Most of my skin is still pretty "tight" for right now, but another 30 pounds from now, I just don't know. I'm anxious to see how my current tat's fare after losing my 100 pounds. I can already tell they will probably need some repair work or a complete coverup. For example, I have a green dragon over my left boob... since I've been losing weight, that dragon's getting smaller, and I'm losing a lot of detail. The shark on my back is also getting smaller, and instead of having a mouth full of sharp teeth, it now has a mouth full of a black blob. It's pretty disappointing.
Anyway, if I were you, I'd wait a little while to see what condition your skin is in after you've lost some of that excess poundage. If you do a tat now, it might look a whole lot different when you're at goal, and probably not for the better. Of course it's going to depend, too, on where you plan on getting your new tat. Obviously some parts are going to look a little worse than others; fleshy parts are probably going to be saggy. Tattoos over bonier parts will most likely hold up better.

This is another depends-on-the-placement issue, but a lot of us end up going under the plastic surgeon's knife once goal is met. I've seen some funny looking half tattoos where skin was removed. Just wanted to toss that out there. I have also seen some really cool tattoos used to cover up plastic surgery scars! One gal had a lower body lift and once everything healed up she had ivy tattooed over the scar all the way around. It sounds weird but looked neat and covered up that scar very nicely.
At or below goal since 5/08....without mal-absorption!
