I took out a loan for half, and my verrry generous parents gifted me the other half (after 2 years of them being so against the surgery).

Hijack, how are you feeling, Jen?  Are you able to drink now, are you home?

When my company changed insurance policies THE SAME MONTH I was going to submit to insurance for surgery approval, I thought I was so screwed! But then I started looking into jobs that offer insurance benefits to part-time employees. I was 110% ready to work a second job for 6 months if it meant I wouldn't have to pay for my surgery out-of-pocket (I had even downloaded and started filling out the application for Starbucks!).

My situation ended up changing, but that was my top option at the time. I'm only 26, and my parents just moved after a year of paying 2 mortgages, and my sister just invested in a home business, so family couldn't help me with thousands of dollars. And, thanks to the tanked housing market in my area, I have negative equity in my home.

I cashed out an IRA from a former employer's 401k account.

My trusty home equity line of credit.  Thank God for it!  I'm paying for the plastic surgery with that, too.  Equity in my home would mean nothing to me if I was so fat I couldn't function ... or if I was dead!
