You are going through what I have just gone through and I narrowed it down to those two as well.  What it comes down to is that they are both VERY qualified and two of the most highly regarded surgeons on here.

You will find people on here who will tell you how good their experience was with each one, but for me it came down to the logistics and just going with my gut.  I didn't think I could go wrong with either.  I ended up choosing Dr. Aceves.  I did like the fact that he was F.A.C.S., which is the same organization that many US surgeons are a part of.  I also liked the fact that in addition to the LapBand and Sleeve, he also did the more difficult surgeries like the RNY.  These were only what helped me make my own personal decision but I think you could not go wrong with either one.

When it all comes down to it, you have to go with what feels right for you but from my research they are both very good.

I went to Dr. Pompa in Mexico. Incredibly bright, intelligent, confident woman. I would definately recommend her and her team if you arent sure where you want to go in Mexico.

Since your in San Diego they will actually pick you up and bring you...I flew into SD and thats how I got there :)

Do you mind me asking how much your surgery was? I don't see she list prices on her website.

$7500...they were doing a promotion, I think its normally $8,000. Still cheaper than most others I found - not that I picked her for that reason only  lol. I had talked to a lot of her patients on the phone and everyone was so happy with their experience.

I went through the same dilema and ended up following my heart and going with Dr. Aceves after praying. I have heard a lot of good things about Dr. Alvarez but I know for a fact how wonderful Dr. Aceves is and I truly would recommend them.

I went with Dr. Aceves because the F.A.C.S. designation was very important to me.  I look for that qualification stateside too.  I was not disappointed.  He and his staff are very professional and competent.  You would be in good hands with him and his staff. (plus logistically you are right there.)

Dr. Alvarez was great, as was his entire group.   The major factors for me were distance to travel and smaller town.  I don't think you can go wrong with either.

To be honest, I don't think you will go wrong with either one of them as your Dr.  For me though, my heart told me Dr. Aceves.

It was truly a wonderful experience.  I have never in all my 51 years had a surgery or hospital stay in the US, that was as nice as the one in Mexicali, Mexico.

Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos comes by to see you several times during the day and at night also.  They  treat you like you are the only patient they have.  Of course all the rooms were full with other patients, but you feel like you are their only one.

The hospital was so clean.  No lie you could almost eat off the floors.  The cleaning staff were there cleaning 24/7.

Also I like the fact that I stayed in the hospital the whole time for recovery.  No going to a motel after surgery.  Just the one night at the motel before surgery.  Total of 3 nights in hospital for recovery.  Now here in the states they would want us out ASAP.

Just do your research, and I am sure you will make the decision that is best for you.
