Question, about how much food your new tummy holds?
Hello everyone,
I will be getting sleeved snooner than later i hope. When i read your post i read about how little you can eat and how you get full fast, these are some of the reasons for having my sleeve.
I went out to lunch with some friends and one of my friends has had gastric bypass. It has been months and she has lost 30 lbs., she isnt dieting just letting the gastric bypass do everything. She had a 12 inch sub, with fries, orange juice and a coffee, it seemed like alot for someone who has had this kind of surgery. That sandwich and fries would have been enough for me now before surgery.
Im planning to excersise and eat better, i have already started walking. Im scared is it possible after 3 months to be able to eat that much. I didnt want to affend her so i wouldnt dare say anything but is it possible???????????
Thanks ,
Nancy

there's no way you'll ever be able to eat that again... ever... why your friend is sabotaging herself and her weight loss is beyond me... 12" sandwich and fries?? girl, you could make about 5 meals out of that, maybe more, but she shouldn't be eating fries anyway... you say it's been months since her surgery?...if she had been watching what she eats, being careful with carbs and fats and all that, she would have lost WAY MORE than just 30lbs with an RNY by now.
OMG!! It doesn't sound like your friend took her new way of life seriously! There is no way that she should be eating that much at one sitting! If she was watching what she ate and exercised, she should have lost a lot more than 30lbs. People who get RNY's tend to lose at a quicker rate than VSG's but it seems she probably has sabotaged her success : ( At 7 months out, I can eat between 4-6 oz of food-depending on what it is and how slow I eat-I burp often! If I eat food that is more dense, then I fill up faster. I could only eat about a 3" sub if I ate all the bread too. I tend to have a few bites with bread and then eat the meat etc. I was a carb girl so I really watch how many I eat now. I don't want to be carb girl anymore so I try to stay away. It's really unfortunate that your friend didn't grasp the chance she had when she decided on surgery. I would dare say that 99% of VSG'ers could eat that much at 3 months so do not worry. Most are still having challenges with the liquids and protein yet alone a foot long sub! I think this may be a very isolated case and is not the norm! Good luck in your journey and grasp the gift that you've given yourself!
I am 5 weeks and can only do about 1/3 cup cottage cheese or refried beans and only 2 ozs dense protein. I could never eat a 12 in sub at this point and don't think I would ever be able to!!!! She clearly didn't take this as a lifestyle change with the help of her TOOL. WLS is not a miracle worker! You seem to know that this wan't smart so I am sure you'll do great!!!!
I'm just 3 mths out and I could eat maybe 2oz of meat and a few bites of a sub bun. There's no way I could eat a small Subway sub to give you an idea. And def. not the fries, OJ and coffee. I might have a fry or two with my sub but only if they look like stellar fries.
A friend of mine had RnY last May and at 3 mths, she could not have eaten that amount at all. Not sure she could even eat that much in one sitting now from what she says.

When i saw her eat that much i was so shocked, and of course i think she has dumpping syndrome she hit the bathroom twice after. She is a friend but not my best friend, how do i go about telling her something or should i even????????? She doesnt excersise but she doesnt drink carbonated drinks (one plus) but i think if she tries harded she will lose the weight faster, she also had a lap band before and didnt work very well could that be it? She did the liquid diet after surgery 2 weeks, and soft food but i was worried about me and now im worried for her.

For the first part of your post, I'm 1 year out and there is NO WAY I could even think of attempting such a lunch. I'm still at between 4-6 oz. of non dense food. That is what is so awesome about the VSG. Even if our head wants to indulge, our stomach tells us NO WAY! Secondly, has your friend voiced any concerns about how she is eating, not losing weight, is she following up with the Dr.?? If she is following up with the Dr. then I am sure they are talking to her about her lack of progress and nutritional guidelines, and she is making a decision to not follow the guidelines. If she is not following up, maybe you could start a conversation about following guidelines, asking the difference between RNY and VSG guidelines, just to get her thinking and talking about what she is doing. It could be a gentle segway to encourage her to educate herself further. Good luck!
Well I am a couple weeks shy of 15 months out...and I couldn't eat a 6 inch sub...so I think you will find your portion control is much better than hers. Sounds like she has stretched her stoma...I didn't think RNYers were supposed to eat bread at all? I can eat a lot more than I could early out...but even at that, I can only do about 5 oz of dense protein with a few veggies at this point.
I wouldn't bother saying anything! I'm thinking there is more head issue she has to deal with. It's too bad this is her second chance and she's treating her body the way she is. Or should I say her third chance in life.
I am a year out and can barley eat a half of a 6" Subway sub. I don't like to pu**** But, I know if I ate the whole 6" I would just be bringing it back up, so what's the sense.
Maybe after the sleeve see will see by example ans will follow you (o;
