How many calories per day??

So im two weeks out and feel great.  I am drinking a lot of protein shakes (2 per day) and concentrating on getting my 70 gms of protein in per day via shakes, eggs and tuna.  My question is how many calories should i be taking in at this point?  I dont seem to have any problem getting 1000+ per day.  Is this too much?  Any advise will be appreciated.

Thanks,

So glad to hear from you Island Guy!  Glad to hear you are doing well.  I don't have any advice for you as I haven't had surgery yet!  Hopefully someone will chime in soon :)

I had the same question at 2 weeks out.  At one month out, my NUT has me @ between 1000 and 1200 calories a day.  I find if I stay between 800 and 1000, (proteins mainly), my energy is excellent thruout the day.  Of course these numbers our for my body type and height.

At 2 weeks out my dietician said we should be between 700-900 calories a day...then after 6 weeks we should be at 900 and then 6+ months we should aim to be between 1000 and 1200.

In my opinion, I don't think 1000+ is too much; especially because you are a man. Keeping a healthy metabolism isn't a goal for everyone and many wls practices see the sluggish metabolisms as the necessary evil for those will lose all their excess weight in one year of less.

Early on, I was working hard to get close to 1000 calories and when I was at your point, that was tough, but I'm a 40-something year old short-to-middle height chick. Men need more and you didn't indicate your height and level of activity. Seems like you are on the move with work and that's a thing to keep in mind.

I'm 7 months out, and I set a goal of 1000-1500 a day based on my activity for each day. I know I could lose pretty fast at 800 calories a day, but that doesn't seem like the kind of metabolism I want to take into middle-age.

This journey is a lot of trial-and-error. I'm riding on the high edge of caloric intake intentionally, but it's working for me.

Wishing you continued success!
Frances

I'm 3 weeks out and getting in under 300 calories a day. Thats my 24 ounces of skim milk (usually get about 18 in) and my 3T mushies a day. I asked aboutthe protein drinks and the dr said no.

Wow that's crazy.  I guess every doc is different.  I could not imagine having enough energy to even get out of bed with less than 300 cal per day?  How can you possibly get your recommended 50 to 70 gms of protein per day if you cant drink protein shakes????  In the liquid and mushy stage its virtually impossible?  I think id be questioning my doc??

Are you a Vancouver Island Guy?  I'm originally from Campbell River, but spent most of my adult life in Victoria...was just out for a visit...I miss it so much!

That is exactly where I was as per my docs instructions.  Only now, six months out have I gradually worked up to 600-800 cals.  I am told to stay here until I am done losing.  That will not be too long as I am only 10lbs. from goal.  I had no problem at all, eigther with my energy level, or hunger, staying in this range.
