If you drink Alcohol, how long did you wait after surgery?
I drank for the first time about 4 weeks post op. I had no issues with it. I've drank I think twice more since then. Some people say the alcohol affects them much quicker now than it did before but that was not the case with me. It didn't affect me any differently than before.
I don't know about carbonation...I don't drink anything carbonated and don't want to so that's not a concern for me....at least right now!
**Edit...I should add that I was not given permission by my surgeon to drink and my plan says I shouldn't have any for at least six months because it's just empty calories. But hey...I live just outside of New Orleans...and we drink around here!
I don't drink often...typically maybe once a month but I've had several events that included a lot of drinking over the past couple of months so I made the choice to do it and deal with whatever the consequences might be...such as slower weight loss, etc.

my doc is rabid about not drinking your calories, so he is opposed to alcohol consumption....
what i'm finding is that since i can no longer deal with my stress by eating, i tend to lean toward a glass or two to "relax".. not good....
i'm working on it.... i know it has been a factor in the slowdown in my weight loss... just be careful..

Hi Jennifer,
I stopped drinking after surgery... for the most part.
One month after surgery I celebrated my birthday and had a glass of wine.
Each day hubby and I sit on the deck and have happy hour to unwind and take in the view of the Caribbean Sea... but no alchohol for me, except on occassion.
I hated to drink my calories!!
Now over a year out, and below goal, I have a drink a little more often than I did when I was losing, but I still hate to drink those calories.

I always thought the no carbonation thing was forever, but I have met some people who are years out and they have the occassional beer or soda. So far, I've completely avoided carbonation.
Not so with alcohol. I like to drink on occassion, and I definitely have. It was about 3 months after surgery before I had my first drink, but that was partly because I didn't have a reason to drink before then, i.e., I wasn't on vacation, which is when I like to drink the most.
However, my surgeon's office told me that with the sleeve there's no reason to avoid alcohol. But obviously it has empty calories so you have to be careful about that. But the occassional drink is fine.

I asked my doctor if I could ever have coke again he said "sure, as long as its flat" but hey, small price to pay for being able to hike 2 miles over rough terrain with my grandkids yesterday, even crossed a stream using stepping stones without getting my feet wet or falling in lol This time last year it would have been impossible.
