Full Liquid diet.. getting bored.. need ideas!
You can mix those with your vanilla protein shakes for a great taste combo - like with orange for Orange Dreamsicle flavor.
You can also buy extracts in the baking aisle (coconut is my fav) and mix it with your shakes ... or a combo. Coconut with Almond in a chocolate shake tastes like an Almond Joy bar.
Today I made my chocolate lunch shake with half almond milk, half water, 6 ice cubes and mixed it in my Magic Bullet. It tastes better than a chocolate shake from Burger King! I might add mint extract tomorrow!
Get creative and your boredom will ease. I promise!
HUGS!
Of course if you are still on clear liquids, there's just not much more than what you listed that you can have. Unfortunately I just had to deal with it until it was over! :)
Good luck to you--hope it gets better soon!
I am soo happy I saw your post about the pregresso soup! I'm on a liquid diet for 2 days before my surgery (on 9/12/14)..and even though it's the first day I just couldn't drink more broth today!! I saw your post then went to the store to buy that soup. I used the immersion blender like you said then put it through a very fine strainer. I don't like shakes at all so I have a unflavored protein you can add to anything- hot or cold. One tablespoon has 30 grams of protein, it's called Genepro. So I added my scoop of protein to give the strained soup extra nutrients. Thank you so much for that suggestion!!
I waited until I was a week out to have tomato soup, because the acid can irritate your healing tummy.
I don't see yogurt on your list of what you're currently consuming. Yogurt is wonderful during this time because it gives you that sense of fullness.
Honestly, this part is hard and tedious. You just have to suck it up and deal with the fact that this part is frustrating. It does get a bit better when you start purees. Hummus, refried beans, etc. have made this time a lot easier!
The 1st few weeks were the worst portion of the whole thing. You are in limbo. You don't want to do any damage to your new stomach but it's hard. I remeber being really, really bored for the 1st few weeks after surgery which back in my pre-op days used to lead to some serious eating.
I had to look at it like this:
1. I can't do anything to my stomach that the Dr doesn't reccommend. (i.e., no drinks with food, eat slow, eat only what's approved).
2. I don't like protein shakes AT ALL but I had to look at it as though I was trying to heal myself (by drinking the shakes) as soon as possible and the only way I was going to do that was through protein and exercise.
3. By following my dr. reccommendations on the food, I was able to start full duty at work at 4 days post op and back at the gym after 3 1/2 weeks. (I don't know if this was the best idea but it was neccesarry for my sanity as I get bored easily. Not everyone is the same but I think the extra protein had a lot to do with my faster recovery.)
Good luck on your journey.
I have 10 days left before I have my surgery and I have cheated twice since June 30th. Being that I had steamed chicken chunks and vegetables a small portion and the 4th had a cup of peas and a piece of pork rib. Now that I am back on track with the protein shakes and broth, will that any effect since my surgery is on next Thursday?
