Can anyone recommend a good Calcium Citrate chew??
I have heard bariatric advantage has some great chewable ones in different flavors. My support group leader is going to bring in some samples and I can't wait to try them.
www.bariatricadvantage.com i think is the website.
Good luck

I like both the lemon and chocolate flavored chews from Bariatric Advantage. No pills and it's like having a treat three times a day...

You must permanently change your lifestyle if you want your weight loss to be permanent. You can do it!
I like the Bariatric Advantage chewable calcium - cinammon best, then chocolate, wild cherry last. They're big and a *****alky, gritty, which I always thought was the case. But I like the Kirkland chocolate chews a LOT better and they are cheaper. I get those at Costco and they have the same amount of calcium (50mg) as do the BA chewables, and are not gritty at all. They're like eating a chocolate caramel.

They are calcium carbonate, but my surgeon's office says they are fine for me. I take 3 of them a day, split between lunch and dinner, or just one at a time 2 hours apart because you can only absorb so much calcium at once. And these were shared at our pre-op nutrition class where we learned how and when to take our supplements. Since we don't malabsorb, they are fine for me. But I alternate with the BA's because I still have some and I like a bit of a change to round things out. : )

Carbonate needs an acidic environment to be absorbed properly. If you're on a PPI, or acid reducer, your body is not absorbing the calcium carbonate. That is why citrate is so highly recommended with our sleeve since most of us are on a PPI. It has nothing to do with malabsorptive procedure vs. restrictive procedure.
Carbonate is cheap and easily marketed unfortunately, it's not a great source of calcium. My PCM won't even recommend carbonate to his normal, non-altered patients because it's just not that great of an option for absorption of calcium to prevent brittle bones.

I use the BA chews...I personally prefer the lemon flavor. I think Celebrate makes a chew as well but if recall, the calories/carbs were a bit higher on them if that matters to you.
2 chews=500mg calcium/250IU VitD3. I aim for 2000mg of calcium a day, so 8 chews. and these chews alone aren't enough to keep my D3 up so I've had to add 50,000IU Dry D3 from Vitalady 1-2 times/week.
