Tricalcium Phosphate?

Costco has really good tasting calcium gummies. The calcium in them is from Tricalcium Phosphate, which is not citrate or carbonate.... does anyone know if this kind of calcium can be used instead of calcium citrate?

Hi sweetie,  thanks for your kind words earlier, it does feel great.   i don't think you should take this other form of calcium.   For some reason from all the researching i have done i believe that we absorp the citrate best.  At first i took the Citracal petites and they went down easy.  Now i take a Tender cal/mag/d3 combo that i get from vitalady.com  with and additional Dry D3 since my D was low,  statistics indicate most of us have low Vit D levels in our bodies,   Good luck,  i'm certainly not a supplement specialist  :o)  jeani

I got some of these from Target (they have a store brand of the same thing) and they're super yummy!  Not sure if they're doing anything, but they sure do taste good.  Can't wait to hear what the peanut gallery has to say about them!

I take a form of calcium phosphate & everything I've found on the internet says its an acceptable form of calcium. I know its not a popular opinion on this forum, but my Dr says we absorb calcium like everyone else and that we don't need to take a special form. He recommends taking calcium but says it does not have to be citrate.

The main difference between calcium citrate and calcium carbonate is the carbonate version requires more stomach acid to fully absorb. That's the reasoning. Most of us don't produce the amount of acid needed in our tiny tummies. Plus, even 'normies' tend to have trouble absorbing fully the carbonate version.

I understand the differences, but none of the sites I read said that calcium phosphate required the extra stomach acid, so it should be fine to take too.

consider citrate if you have calcuim deficiency.    Bariatric Advantage has some great lemon citrate chewables and I take a Vitamin Shoppe blueberry flavored Vitamin D which helps with bone density..

Thanks everyone for the replies... I am not sure what to do... I am taking bariatric advantage citrate chews now but they are expensive and I love the thought of being able to purchase my vitamins at costco!
I don't have a problem with calcium. I am 29 years old. Maybe I will give the Tricalcium Phosphate chews a try and see what it does to my blood levels.

You can get citrical at any grocery store or Target and there is often a cheap store brand as well. So I bet they have it at Costco.

As to the doctor who said we don't need a special form of calcium, I'm dumbfounded. A well known side-effect of partial gastrectomies (of which the sleeve is a form) is osteoporosis because there is limited stomach acid in our tummies post-op and so we don't break down calcium as well as we used to. And, if you're still on a PPI, it's even worse.

This has been known for decades, well before WLS even existed, btw.
