A question to the VSG long-timers
umm..this following message is a "do as I say..not as I do" post....LOL
I will tell you..Soda definitely doesn't offer your body anything as far as nutrition..so I say stay away from it.
With that being said..I can drink soda just fine. I cannot drink from a can or bottle without it upsetting my stomach, but If I pour it in a glass full of ice..it goes down just fine. I drank it again for the first time around 8 mths postop. Definitely wish I hadn't even started...because it's a weakness of mine.

My experience, and my experience alone. I've drank regular soda for over a year with zero ill effects, and zero change in my sleeve capacity. I was below goal when I started drinking them. I am now avoiding caffeine since I'm pregnant, and honestly don't need the caffeine.
I can drink it out of a can, bottle, fountain, through a straw, whatever it doesn't matter. When I drank alcohol, I drank rum/cokes on a regular basis. No burp, sometimes a burp, sometimes nothing.
You're going to hear a full gammut of opinions on this subject. Some surgeons say never, some people don't want to re-introduce them. I live a life of moderation, and skinny *****es drink a soda here and there. I wanted normalcy, and a soda a few times a week is normal, at least in my opinion.

And congrat's on the pregnancy!!
congrats on the pregnancy!!! this is awesome! I am happy for you as from what I saw on the board you truly seem to be a great person
to the OP, I had a little diet coke for the first time this week. I am far from being addicted to soda, I really never drank it regularly, but it seems it didn't do anything wrong to my stomach and I didn't feel sick because of it. I can't drink a (whole) small bottle, so I had a little over 3-4 days and haven't finished it yet, hehe.
I think it all depends on what you're addicted to. my problems is carbs so I am really careful with that as it brings cravings back. if you're addicted to soda, you should be extra careful with that as well.
the good part of vsg is that it seems (for me, so far) that you can have anything although you can't have too much of anything. I also had the "never, forever" thoughts before surgery but now I understand it doesn't work like that. I have not tried to eat bread so far though... so I can't say for sure.
