My Dr. said not to drink it again and to stop well before surgery.  I stopped in November and don't plan on starting again.  I have been enjoying mostly water, Crystal Light, decaf herbal teas and the occasional decaf from Starbucks for a treat.  Personally, it's yet another habit that I feel I don't need.  I don't miss it.

Not to thread-jack, but THANK YOU! When you mentioned you drink herbal tea, I thought "Hmm, I wonder if the tea I like is naturally decaf?"

HOLY CRAP IT IS!

I can have my passion tea! Yay!

I'm a big fan of Propel Zero (Grape)... it's replaced soda for me entirely

Four Months out.. Soda hurts to drink, but I'm a hard head and I drink it.  Flat is yucky, what's the point?  lol.  But am definitely trying to cut down, because it's empty calories and hurts.  But on the way down it feels good.. I love  fizzy.

I am not going to try soda...not worth it to me but my doctor said caffeine is allowed after 4 weeks but I figured that I went without for 4 weeks, why not keep it up.  I switched to decaf.  I use splenda and eat a sugar free fudge pop every night as a treat, but if there is a dessert at a party, I will take a little taste of it.  I figure I want to save my calories for good food...

Best of luck on your journey.

i have been drinking diet soda whenever i want it from a few months post op on. i was not convinced that the data showing carbination was detromental to the bypass applied to the sleeve (stretching being the risk). i have not noticed any ill effect.
i drink it slower now, but i drink everything slower then i used to, so that does not stand out to me.
no matter what you decide, good luck, and if anyone has any VSG specific data on carbination use, i would like to hear about it. i did not think my Dr knew or cared much about VSG vs bypass. he just said 'follow the bypass plan'.
i am 11 months out and 123 lbs down. 32 lbs from goal and doing well.

Okay... I am the naughtiest so far for sure. I am 2 weeks post op and had a diet squirt yesterday. I let it go like half flat. But Squirt still has a little fizz no matter what, and it was beautiful. And I don't feel guilty and it didn't hurt my stomach!

One of the great things about the sleeve is that you rarely get cravings so strong for a particular thing that you have to give in, and almost anything satisfies hunger.

I decided not to go for soda again.  Its no good for you, so, as long as I have this great tool that lets me eat - and drink - better, I figured why pick up a habit that it doesn't bother me not to have?  I spent the better part of my life wishing there was something I could do to conquer this  terrible addiction to lousy foods and beverages.  Well, now I have it and am going to take full advantage of it.
