Considering eating fruit for every meal
It's been a full week since.... you know - can't go. I took a stool softner over 24 hours ago...nothing. Do I go to the drug store and buy the major unpluggers or eat fruit all day and see if that works? If I eat fruit for every meal, there won't be room for protein so I will go a whole day without protein. So many different problems with this whole thing. I had no idea....... Help please?
milk of magnesia is what helps me in those situations.
also, it is regular for me now to go 3 or 4 days between poos. usually its 2 or three days, but it has been 4 days a few times. i have only used milk of magnesia once, and i'm not even sure i needed it. it was when i was early enough out that i didn't know it would be regular to go a few days.
don't skip a day without protein, just get some milk of magnesia. one dose worked for me. it will take a few hours before it works, but it will work!

It's a garbage in, garbage out thing. If your body is utilizing the majority of the food you eat, you will have very little waste, and if you are adequately hydrated and have enough vitamins/minerals, it should be very smooth. However you may not go all the time. If you are eating garbage, you will have more coming out. You have to realize what feces is, and why it's not this fabulous thing to have so much of it.
Feces is primarily food your body could not use or digest, bacteria and other garbage. Why would you want a lot of that? You are not constipated if you don't go frequently. You are constipated if you feel pressure but can't go, or you have difficult movements. Going infrequently is not constipation in itself.
Here are some things that help if you ARE having problems with feelings of pressure or difficult movements:
Water: Increase water intake. Water works along with fat to lubricate the body and to help waste matter move through the bowel.
Probiotics: Food in the colon gets "digested" by friendly bacteria, and this helps keep the colon unblocked. Try adding probiotics to your routine in small amounts, and see if this helps. You'll want a good probiotic that is dairy free and contains no sugar, soy or other harmful fillers.
Vitamin C: Increase your Vitamin C to 2-5 grams a day which will help your immune system and help with constipation.
Magnesium Citrate: If none of the above items help, try taking magnesium citrate. If isn't part of your daily supplement regimen, you'll want to start out slow. Try 200mg in the AM and 200mg in the PM the first day. If that doesn't cause you issues but doesn't give you relief from constipation either, add another 200mg the next day. Keep adding magnesium citrate until either you experience relief or you have reached 1000mg, but do not go over this amount.
Hope that helps.. hugs...

I'm almost 3 weeks out and this has been the first week with this issue so I haven't taken anything at all for the whole post surg time. I know going 3 to 4 day sis normal but I don't think 7 is. Okay - so how does the miralax or milk of mag work? I have to go to class tonight and work tomorrow morning. If I go to the store and buy it and then take it now, are these things going to keep me home close to the bathroom? Can't do that guys.
Been there done that. What I do these days is eat 3 prunes each morning. works well. low calorie but has a few carbs.
But to get immediate relief, take a good dose of milk of magnesia. should work within 24 hours. If you have a super bad case, consider the nuclear option which is a fleet enema which comes in a single use applicator with a squirt tip. Works within a half hour or so, so don't go anywhere. had to resort to this a few times but realy works and better than waiting days for fruit to work.
