Throwing up with the sleeve? Staples forever?

Random questions form a pre-op...

What about throwing up because of non surgery related things... like a stomach virus, or morning sickness or something... will that hurt the sleeve?

Also, do we have a risk of leaks forever, or just in the first 3-12 months or something like that?  The thought of having a row of staples down my stomach forever is scary!  (not scary enough to reconsider though... I just like to get lots of info!!!)

Thank you all so much for your support and info!!!

oh... does anyone know if there is a wya to make it so that your text/font/color will stay the same all the time, or do you have to do it each time?  And is there a spell check option?  :-)  thanks again!

Throwing up after the sleeve is a weird experience. Sorry if this is TMI:

There has been a couple of times that I ate too fast/too much and the food came up but it wasnt a full on vomit. Its hard to explain, you kind of have to experiece it to understand. Its not painful or anything.

I had a stomach virus 3 weeks ago and 9 hours of the worst vomiting/dry heaving of my life was nooo fun. First off, you dont get the crapton of fluids in the day like pre-surgery so there is a thin line (at least for me) on the border or hydrated and not. I could not take any fluids in so I ended up admitting to myself I needed to go get IV Zofran and fluids.

I have heard the staple line heals in 3 months and that skin or scar tissue grows over it and "seals" it. Even after that terrible virus at 3 months out I was fine.

Puking since the sleeve has been a lot less gut-wrenching for me... There's no chance of damage (certainly not after you're initially healed). It's the same organ, just a lot smaller (and less stretchy) than before. And I'm pretty sure the risk of leaks passes after the line is healed over. I believe (and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong) that folks that develop leaks likely had defects in their original closure line.
And no, I've never been able to set a preference for font...if you figure it out please let us allllll know.

Back 'atcha girlie. I'm going to make some more progress so I can come off the fence on plastics for next year (if insurance will pay). That's the plan, anyway...

Kind of the same deal with me.  It's BEEN time for a follow up from my last round.  I'm avoiding my doctor because I've gained.  So NOW while I'm paying down my debt I'm getting my head BACK in the game for life.  I won't have another round if I'm mentally not ready....good to see you back!
