I do not feel the VSG patients are bashing the band here.  I had a band and the fact is it had a leak and then shattered apart in my body and slipped.  I have the CT scans to prove it when I had to go to the emergency room for the extreme pain I was in.  We just feel that the show was one sided.  The complications of the band should have been discussed further.  I would not have had a band put in my body had I known all the of the complications they could cause. I feel like many will walk away thinking it is the answer for them without really knowing all of the facts.

This is proably going to get me killed but you have to take into account who is selling this surgery. Dr. Oz is at least part quack. famous or not. He promotes homeopathy which is pure quackary in the minds of most reputable scientists. Homeopathy states that a medicine that is 1 part medicine to millions of parts of water is useful and the more deluted it is the more useful it is. some of their stuff is like one drop in a swimming pool full of water. Now consider that this man promotes that. Why would you believe anything he say? I admit to being a sceptic and I don't beleive in anything that can't be proved or at least is provable. So take my words with a bit of salt too.

I did not get to see the show due to severe weather in our area. I really am not a big fan of Dr. Oz, (I do think he is a sell out), but I just wanted to say that his show was the first place I heard about the sleeve. He did a segment on it in the fall of 2010 and he was very pro sleeve.

To the people who say we are band bashing, this is the VSG forum.  I did not post anything on the band board.  If you  are so happy with your band thats great, but why are you on the VSG forum?  I just stated my experience with having 2 bands and having slips with both of them.  My slips were not do to me not following the rules or surgeon error.  Slips are very common in a high percentage of band patients and the Dr. Oz show was very one sided, and didnt explain the risks and serious complications you can have from the band.   I wish you many years of success with your band and hope you never have to go thru what I went thru with mine.  I'm just glad I was one of the lucky ones who's insurance paid for revision to VSG, which is a surgery that actually works.
