This is something to address with the pre surgical dept at the hospital. Mine said no problem with the acrylic nails. But to be sure, ask.

And good luck with your surgery Friday. You will be just fine if you keep thinking positive thoughts about your new life!

Always the best wishes, Sue

I don't understand, what problem would the acrylic nails pose?

From what I understand they need 1 finger to put the oxygen level thingy on....

The Acrylic nails can be a problem if you are having oxygen issues.  The Pulse Ox that they place on your finger to monitor oxygen level cannot work correctly if you have Acrylic nails.  Also, just by looking at your nail beds they can tell if you are having O2 issues.  If your nail beds turn blue then that is an initial sign of lack of oxygen.  Hope this helps.  But, ask your surgeon.  Now they are able to do it both with and without.  It just depends on the surgeon.  Thanks and God Bless you on your journey.  Don't be nervous, it was a peice of cake (sorry)  But it was!  I am only 3 weeks out and feel absolutely wonderful!  Was walking an hour after surgery.  You will do great!  Leslie

I didn't have to remove my acrylic nails, but I did have to take off the nail polish.  they need to see if there is any change in color of your nail bed.  If you're not getting enough oxygen in your blood your nail bed will turn blue.

They can also put the pulse ox on your earlobe to check your saturation.  But you may want to check with them.  I have gotten pulse ox readings through acrylics before you may need to take the polish off of one if you have a dark color on.  Good luck on Friday!  ASP (Always stay positive)!!
