I Feel Like A Freak... Kind Of

My nutritionist gave me the freedom to eat whatever I want at 4 weeks post op.  I have decided for myself to go low carb because it suits me for the moment,  and if the odd opportunity presents itself to have a little pasta, I probably will.  I'm sorry you feel like an outcast, but we're not all the same, we all have different doctors who have different beliefs.  It would be a very boring world if we were all the same.  Life is too short to care what others think of you.  Be yourself and be happy.

My doc is super strict!  He says no more white stuff - ever!  And no milk, cream or even non-dairy creamers.  I gave up coffee very reluctantly because I can't drink caffeine anymore either.  So far the only issue I have is with the head hunger and wanting potatoes and chips, but I know in the long run I will be better for it.   I am only three weeks out and I think in like 6 months or even a year from now I probably won't even crave those things.  So here's to being a skinny freak along with you.

I feel like a freak/outcast all the time.. so we can start our own little club. I don't eat carby crap either, and really have no interest in it.. now cheese.. that's another story.

If what you're doing is working for you.......then keep doing it!  Don't worry about other peoples'  "plan"  A question....Are these ALL vsg people?    Different surgery types have different plans....food tolerance/intolerance...etc.

It's a blend of VSG, LapBand, and RNY. I went to a group at a the facility where I had my surgery so all of us had the same 2 surgeons, but all had the same 2 nuts and for all the surgeries the guidlines are no more than 15g per meal or snack.

I'm sticking to "my" plan that I've figured out for myself with the aid of my nut... If not I might have some people coming after me to whoop me!! lol

I enjoy being a "little different" in my support group(s).  While many people always want to talk about how to make this or that taste better, I'm chiming in with, "I eat regular food, in measured amounts, and the reason I choose VSG in the first place, was so that I could continue to eat the things I like."
I'm totally off of booze (at least for now), do very little white food, and I RECORD EVERYTHING  so that I can no longer lie to myself about eating.  Couple that with DAILY EXERCISE and presto/changeo - I'm down 108 lbs. @ 4.5 mos. post-op. and I've lost all co-morbidities as well.

I find that many people in the support groups have a hard time with the notion that I take to heart:  I agreed to be on a medically supervised nutrition and exercise program for 12-18 months as a way of conquering my super-morbid obesity.  I never forget that, even though, at 65, I sometimes can't remember where I put my.....whatever it was...

You are doing fantastic!  Keep being YOU! Keep going to groups so that you can annoy them with your success.  And spend those Kohl's bucks on something nice for yourself - you've earned it.

Kelby, you are doing great, and you just go ahead and find support where it works for you. You are super cute, and a weight loss goddess!

I must say, though, this discussion illustrates one frustration I have. (vent alert) Why is nutrition a matter of doctors' "beliefs?" Why can't they get the F'ing science settled??? There's no scientific reason every doctor and nut should be giving different advice. There are millions of people whose lives depend on the diet advice they get from the so-called experts, and the experts don't agree. What are we supposed to do?

After a lot of reading, I've come to think there are special problems with carbs for some people (maybe most on OH), but in the years and years and years I did weigh watchers nobody every mentioned carbs as a problem. They sell carbs at the meetings!!! Bags and bags and bars and bars of simple starch. This is supposed to be a science-based program. No wonder it never worked for me. I just want to knock all their heads together.

It''s amazing on how different every surgeon/nuts plan is!!! Mine is to have 1000 to 1200 calories daily... I'm usually around 700 to 800. Which I think was influenced by seeing how much people on here consume.

I think weigh****chers just now finally started incorporating carbs in to thier formula to figure out points. I did it a few years ago.. I lost about 20lbs, but the second feel off the wagon I gained it all back!!!

I can answer this for you.. because science is BIASED.  I know because I am a scientist.  They tell you that science is this infallible thing that with proper study things are "proven" but so many studies are quite skewed because of financial interests.

With something as complex as nutrition and the human body, there are too many variables to narrow things down to a proper science experiment, and very few people take out all of the confounding variables.

So depending on what study you read, the science can show something completely different.  Most of the studies follow the same old carb dogma because that's where the money is.

But if you think about it, humans evolved as a species for millions of years as hunter gatherers, not eating any processed foods.. so why would it be now that we need total cereal and vitamin injections?   If you think about it from an evolutionary perspective you'll see it makes no sense.
