Unless the people there went out of their way to make you feel like a freak, then you prob are over-analyzing it. Just like you don't want to feel that way because of what you don't eat, they don't because of what they do eat. I would go anyway- everyone there can only benefit from the diversity of experiences.

"People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within."   - Ramona L. Anderson

Hey Kelby I have to agree I feel like a "freak" about what I will eat and what I wont compared to a lot of other people.  I am olny 7 weeks out and I don't think  I have put anything in my mouth that is not a "protein" or off of the recommended menu presented to me at my first NUT appointment at week 2.5.  I go back to see the NUT on Friday and am sure my diet will be advanced further but I am still afraid to try new things.  I read this site everyday and I am amazed at what some people are allowed to eat at such an early stage of their journey but like it has been said everyone has a different plan.  I am glad I cannot eat more than 1.5 oz or 1/2 cup of anything and I hope that that limitation stays with me for a long time.  I have always wanted a new "gas gauge" and I think I have that now.  I know that I will be tempted by "forbidden" foods but my hope is that I will be only able to take in just bites instead of the entire thing.  I want to avoid carbs and sweets for as long as possible and maybe just maybe those cravings will be gone...one can only hope.  I think you are doing what is right for you and you are doing AWESOME!!!  So from one freak to another continued success!!

I felt this way at some of the group sessions I had to attend before getting a surgery date. My surgeon requires 12 meetings before he'll even submit your paperwork (they're free, and held every week, and sometimes you can get 3 or 4 in one week if the topics are different at each time they are held), and because it included people that hadn't done any research at all, you ended up with the "I have to give up soda?!" "What do you mean, no coffee? What am I supposed to do for breakfast?!" and "No bread?! But what if I want a sandwich!!? What do I do?!?!" comments. I researched for so long before even signing up with a doctor that I was so shocked to hear these comments.

Now that I'm in a pre-op diet class instead, the people have done the research and you don't have those same questions every week, which is nice.
