I started at 437 when I started my preop diet.  I lost 25lbs and was 412 on the day of surgery and this morning Im at 385 so Ive lost 52lbs and Im a month and 2 days out from surgery. My preop diet was only a week BUT it was very low carb and I think thats how I lost so much weight the first week.  I had over 200 to lose and I think as long as I work hard at I can get to my goal so I definitely think you can too =)

In my opinion, and it's only my opinion, there is a huge difference between RNY and VSG. I did a lot of research and did my homework. I ruled out RNY mainly because of the malabsorption issue. There were other facts, too, but for me this was the main one.

My NUT suggests counting percentage of excess weight lost rather than focus on pounds lost. With that, in about 5 weeks I've lost almost 30% of my excess weight. Two things to consider about my case, tho. I'm older and a "lightweight" so the weight will come off slower for me. But it's come off steady. I'm very happy with my decision. Couldn't feel better.

All the best to you, whatever you decede to do.

I will be three weeks after surgery come Tuesday, am 62, and have lost 10 lbs since surgery. I am very happy with the 10lbs as I know if I keep doing what I am told the 100 lbs will come off!  I chose the sleeve for several reasons, (1) one weight gain is minimal as the part of the stomach that they remove has the stretch in it and craving hormones in it. My doc said there is only  a 10-15% stretch left.(2) my friends that have had RNY have all had one or more bowel blockages within 4 years of their surgery which means another surgery (some have had several) or they have gained 50-100% of their weight back and are looking at the sleeve now and having to pay for it themselves.  If you have an active case of acid reflux, most doctors won't let you have VSG as there is a chance that you will get acid reflux with this surgery.  I did about 4 years of research on the VSG and waited a year til my insurance finally approved it before I got the surgery.  I still believe that it is the safest and best long term surgery for me.  Each person has to decide what is best for their particuliar cir****tances.  I have developed a mild case of acid reflux however it is being controlled quite well with prilosec 20 mg twice a day.  I really think it is because of the point I am in in the healing process.  I feel great, keep looking at the goal, don't let others weight losses bother me anymore as I know I will get there if I keep doing what I am told to do.  I think anyone who has 100 or more pounds to lose is kidding themselves if they want to lost that much in 3 months. I am giving myself as long as it takes, I am hoping for 100 lbs lose in 12 months which is Mar 22 , 2012.  However if that doesn't come, I will just keep on keeping on.
I hope this helps you, YOU DECIDE WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU!
