So I know there will be hair loss but I wanna hear about ya'lls experiences. I am very nervous about it b/c my hair is so thin now.  I am already taking biotin and using mane and tail shampoo. Please tell me how much hair loss you had, at what point, when you noticed it growing back, and anything you used to try and help your hair look like its normal self. Thanks ya'll! ~ Christy

Started at 3.5 months post-op, lasted solid 3 months, had regrowth coming in before the shedding even stopped. I never took biotin, or any other pill form supplement. I lost half of my hair by volume and all my new growth came in stick straight. I lost all my natural body/waviness.

The only thing I used was Folicure extra care shampoo (found at Sally's beauty supply or on amazon.com)every other day, and then Nexxus dualiste anti-breakage shampoo/conditioner on the oppositie days. I didn't heat style, color, highlight my hair during that time period.

It took my hair over a year to come back to it's pre-op volume, but it's never got it's natural wavy/body back. When the shedding stopped, I chopped it all off, and added in hoards of layers to give the illusion of volume.

I really started noticing it at about 5 months  i'm almost 11 months out now and it stoped about a month ago.  Now i have all these little hairs standing up on my head :o(  my daughter got tired of me moaning about it and bought me some biotin pills and it stoped, but i think it would have stopped anyway,  it was time for it to stop by that point anyway.   oh well,  it will grow back   not everyone loses their hair, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones  :o) jeani

I started out with fine, thin hair, in fact I was using Toppik even before surgery.  I can't say how much hair I lost, but it was a lot, starting about 3 mos out.  It seems like my hairbrush still has a lot of hair in it, but I'm noticing new growth at the hairline.  I did continue to have my hair colored, although my stylist specializes in more natural, less chemical-y products.

I've used Nioxin shampoo and conditioner, and I've taken biotin as soon as I could start taking capsules.  Neither has done a thing for the loss, or for the condition of my hair, as far as I can tell.  My fingernails are doing great, however, thanks to the biotin.  My stylist recommends shampoo without nitrites and nitrates, which make them suds-up, because it's easier on the follicle, but I haven't done that yet.

Everything I've read says, nothing you can do about it except maybe Toppik or wigs, until it just starts to grow back in on its own.  Probably drugs and alcohol would help with coping, LOL!  Not recommended, of course.

I'm one month out and it's coming out in gobs. It's so depressing. And besides that, my hairs texture is changing... it's so dry and breaking off and it's losing it's curl. Ugh. The hair loss was something I didn't let myself think about when I went into this, and it is something that is making me sad. I need to check out this biotin....

yes biotin is supposed to be very good for this. Its designed for hair skin and nails alot of the people at the drs office told me about it plus I have used to before. Good luck with your hair. Hair loss is one of my biggest concerns!
