I'm going to Jamaica in the morning...
Hello, also from MD.
Wifey and I spent a week in Ocho Rios 2 years ago; same deal all you can eat/drink. I was 425 and still managed to get my fat ass on a bike tour of the mountain coffee plantations. All downhill, of course, and I had my own "escort" riding next to me who will fill the tires are every stop. Seemed funny at the time.
I share your caution about the all-you-can-eat & drink resorts but we love 'em, been to a lot in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Acopulco, etc., and we're booked one week after you leave for a week in ***** Cana, DR. I'm planning on having my first ****tail in 6 mos. with wifey as this is an anniversary trip and she's been my #1 cheerleader.
As I recall, in Jamaica, mon, it's not too difficult to achieve "altered states" enjoyment w/out using any calories; not quite legal, but pretty damned close, esp. if your a Rasti (for a week, anyway). Good luck - enjoy - be mindful of your success so far.

I just got back from Montego Bay in Feb, it was our 2nd trip. You are going to LOVE it...If you get a chance and want a little work out, visit Dunn's River Falls. It's a beautiful huge waterfall you get a personal tour guide who walks/climbs you up or you can walk up the path beside the water fall. It's georgous!!! There is a beach area at the bottom of the falls we went with a group there was a 65 and 70 yr old who climbed it. All of the people are very nice, some of the straw markets can be stressfull, similar to Mexico alot of bargaining. But again all the natives are super nice. I love it, our same group went back to Sunset this year and they say to you "Welcome home" this is your home away from home. Hope you enjoy, be sure to make a copy of your passport and id and tuck it away in your purse just incase something god forbid happens to your original, you can get back to the US. Also I recommend to buy the safe in your room, don't waist anytime b/c we have heard some stories of peoples identity getting stolen. Just play it safe. HAVE FUN AND RELAX!!!!
Dunn's River was closed for renovation.
Jamaicans are some beggars! We couldn't get through the airport without them starting in. We did have a safe in our room where we stored our passports and wallets.
I drank like a fish but it was "free" and I just couldn't pass it up, right? Hahahaha
I can't wait to go back.
Pictures coming.
