Did anyone go from hating exercise to loving it?

It's funny you ask this. I was just thinking about the change in me. Six months ago, when I got sleeved, I wasn't exercising at all. As a matter of fact, I was really bad and didn't start exercising until month 3ish. I have to say, I was less than enthusiastic but I hung in there. Today, I run 3-4 days a week and take a kickboxing class 2-3 days a week. It amazes me that I'm even the same person.
Please don't wait to begin exercising! When you are released to do more activity, do it! You will thank yourself later when you have continuous, steady weight-loss, you start getting firmer, your energy level is high ALL the time....the list goes on and on.
Good luck and keep coming back here. We'll all be here cheering you on and helping to keep you on the exercise bandwagon, even when you think you really don't want to! LOL

I will join your sentiment. I HATE exercise!! I HATE to sweat! LOL!

I did not exercise during my losing phase because I HATED it. However that being said recently I have discovered I can actually do some of the things I have always avoided. Guess what? I actually ENJOY it now! I now walk 4 miles 3 nights per week. I go to Zumba classes 1 night per week and I start most mornings off boxing (bought the bag & gloves) as soon as I wake up. I'm really amazed by my change of heart.

I think a lot of my "problem" has been my "cant do" attitude. That too has changed. I CAN do anything I want, I just have to TRY. It truly is amazing what we can do if we just try!!

Good luck to you! Hope you come to enjoy exercise, as I have, in the near future.

I think it takes a while to go from 'hating' to 'loving' exercise. But the results are worth in - in my opinion.

Before having surgery my favourite sport was surfing - couch surfing !

Then I started walking after surgery and it was ok, I then started doing the eliptical, started pilates reformer classes and gentle games of squash and to working out in the gym.

I've gotten past the point of worrying about what I look like as I exercise - the point is, that I'm there doing something for my health and working my body.

I've enjoyed seeing how my body has transformed as I've lost weight and toned up - I now have great muscles and really strong abs and can do real pushups !

I've now built up my fitness programme so that exercise is a regular part of my daily life and I miss it when I don't do it.

I now do body combat class a few times a week and RPM classes, as well as pilates and the gym and running. In sept last year I did the C25k programme so can now run (I started off struggling to walk and then built it up).

I did my first 10k in Jan and 1/2 marathon in Feb ! which was a HUGE WOW for me, as I've never run before in my life ! And I want to do it all over again - but faster ! - as it's kinda addictive !

To be honest the running is a bit of a pleasure/pain thing - but the reward of finishing a race is just the best feeling ever.

I'm now about to move to my next stage of this journey and have plastic surgery and the thought of not exercising at the same level I do now is really playing on my mind. Sure I can walk to start off with - but I know I can't trust myself on the treadmill as before you know it I'll want to go faster and harder before I should do !

Do I love exercise YES ! Do I wake up in the morning and say 'yahoo I'm off to combat!' - NO But I drag myself out of bed like any other person, have a cup of coffee or two and then the moment I put my gym kit on - I'm ready for exercise and Love feeling the burn !

I invested in a BodyBugg which I wear continuously which keeps me mindful of the amount of exercise etc that I do each day and it keeps me accountable.

The trick is to find something that you enjoy and go for it!

Good Luck
Debbie

Lol! Your title post fits me to the T.. I went from hating to loving exercise! I started walking outside postop, then progressed to joining the town rec center /gym & now go on a set routine:

M : Swim
T : Walk on Treadmill
W : Weights
Th : Elliptical
F : Swim
S : Yoga/Piyo class (Yoga-Pilates fusion)
Su : Zumba class

On any day I can't make it out to the gym, I substitute w/Zumba on my Wii fit, stationary bike or elliptical at home, or just good ol' walking outside.

I found mixing things up & having a variety helps, you won't get bored & keeps the body always challenged !

I'm looking fwd to trying out other activities as well (they're offering Hula dance, Belly Dance Blend, etc later so hopefully I'll muster up the courage to sign up for them)! Hehe, good luck to you, you will feel so energized, it's amazing!

Wow thanks for all the responses!  I am going to start exercising as soon as I am released to b/c I do believe that is what will make me successful.  As badly as I DONT want to do it I DO want to look and feel better and I will use that to motivate myself!!!!
