I've never experienced it but I hope you're feeling better soon! So sorry to hear you're having a rough time.

I had to stay in the hospital an extra day due to nausea.  My first nausea espisode was plain cold water!  After I got home, I decided okay maybe if I drink warm water that will help.  That helped for a day or two and then the protein drinks and overeating caused my nausea.  I went thru four weeks of nausea! My problem was that I wouldn't eat until the nausea went away which means that I didn't get the protein requirement in and therefore got really weak.  I never threw up as I didn't throw up before I had surgery either... The nausea was so bad that I kept telling my daughter and myself, I didn't sign up for this!  The few things that helped was drinking warm liquids and using a baby spoon or baby fork to eat my food.  It took almost three weeks before I figured out how to tell my stomach was full as I never have gotten the satisfied feeling that my doctor tells me is the time to quit eating.  I would only eat 2-3 spoonfuls (baby spoon) of food or drink 1-2 oz of protein at a time and then wait at least 30 min to an hour before I would eat any more.  Cold water or any cold beverage was one of my first most horrible nausea moments!  I only lost 4 lbs my first two weeks also which was really frustrating.  By the third week, I started losing 1lb a day and that scared me even more than the 4lbs frustrated me since I was still being very nauseated.  Go Figure!   By the 4th week, I tried the whey protein again with FF milk instead of water this time, WELL the worst nausea of all the weeks, I was so weak that I barely walked into my office bldg. My coworker told me that I look very pale.  I took 1/4 of the nausea med (Phenagren) that my doctor gave me and within an hour the nausea was gone. I decided that I was going to eat pureed tuna fish and forget the whey protein so I did and the next day, I was feeling stronger and have been better ever since. No more nausea however I don't eat more than 2 or 3 bites of anything that I eat at one time. I puree everything that I eat.  I am now going into my fifth week and I am doing fine.
The bottom line is maybe you just need a different nausea medicine.  Talk to your doctor about that first before you consider another surgery.  This is the best surgery going however each person just has to figure out what will work for them.  I would not recommend you eat anything different than what the doctor is telling you at this time as the stomach is swollen and really sensitive right now.  If you can find a nausea med that will work, I think you will feel so much better and be happy that you did the VSG.  I hope you and your doctor can figure out what will make you feel better as I know what you are talking about.  Are you drinking or mixing milk in your whey protein?  That could be the problem even if you didn't have problems with milk pre surgery. This surgery changes alot of things.  I could drink the whey protein before surgery with no problems at all ...after surgery  is a different story whether using water or milk to  mix it.  You may want to talk to your doctor about that, too. Can you drink the water requirement?      Best Wishes and keep us posted.....YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Not that this helps but do you know what size bougie your surgeon used?

Sometimes the stomach adjust and no further surgery is needed, but only time will tell.

I was never (to my knowledge) diagnosed with acute gastritis. But I did have severe nausea and vomitting for the first 4 weeks post-op. I spent 1 week in the hospital waiting until I can keep clear liquids down. When I got home, the smells and activity (I also had zero energy) put me right back and nausea and vomitting all the time. I tried a couple of different medicines and combinations of clear liquids - hot, cold, room temp, water, broth, popcycles, crystal light, etc. I had problems with all of those at one point or another.

Although I would feel slighlty better everyday the nausea and vomitting was AWFUL. I was really upset and honestly I only stopped feeling buyers remorse last week. I am now 6 weeks out and I am still have nausea but it is manageable by me sitting still and not talking. I stopped vomitting but I still retch every other day since I started leaving the house.

Ok so those are all my problems, the solution for was I had an EGD week 4  post op.  EGD - Esophagogastroduodenoscopy is an examination of the lining of the esophagus, stomach, and upper duodenum with a small camera (flexible endoscope) which is inserted down the throat.  www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003888.htm

Anyway during the EDG my surgeon actually did something to open up things so it was easier to swallow. After that I was able to drink and eat and the nausea and vomitting slowed down a LOT but I still had a little, but that week I developed another problem. I had a second one the following week and they found I now I had some throat infection - the medicine to fix that made me nauseas. But the vomitting was minimal. I am off it now

I also take medications and I know that irritates my tempermental little sleeve. I am really really sorry to hear about your  problems, but if anyone understands nausea and vomitting when there isn't even anything in your stomach it is me.  I hope it gets better for you!

After 6 weeks I am finally going back to work tomorrow.
