I slept in a recliner for the first three weeks and I am glad I did. Every time I tried to get in my bed I felt like everything was pulling. It's different for everyone, but for me the recliner was a definite plus!!!!

I went back and forth, I slept in the bed but needed more pillows and in the daytime I used the recliner. Like ert said, roll to your side and push up from there makes it soo much easier, that being said if you have room get one it will kepp you from being tired of the bed all day and night.

I slept on a sofa bed after I got home!  Well, not home, but I stayed at my sister's house for a while.  I was fine without a recliner.  Getting from sitting up to laying down and back up was the most uncomfortable part.  I'm a side sleeper and doubt I would have slept well in a recliner.

I was unable to sleep on my bed at night for long periods of time so I slept on my bed for about 2 hours then get up and go sleep on my couch. My couch was my best friend the first week lol.

I slept in my bed on my left side.  Just used a small pillow to sort of lean against. I have never ever been able to sleep sitting up or even reclining.

I slept in a recliner the first 5-6 days home and then propped (almost sitting up) in bed. It took me 3-4 weeks to sleep on my right side comfortably.
Everyone is different, though, so you might be one of the people who is up and running around in no time. Not me - it took me a while to get back on my feet.

We have two Lazy-boys so I'm no stranger to sleeping in a recliner. After surgery I slept in the guest room though. The guest bed is downstairs & it's nice and firm like new. It also doesn't have that "dent" in it that my bed upstairs had.

The recliner is a hassle to get in and out of when you have abdominal surgery. I was very comfortable on the guest bed with 3 large pillows to prop me up. One under my head, one under my stomach as I lay on my side, and one under my arm so I don't put too much pressure on my stomach while laying on my side. I spent 5 days down stairs and then I was back to my old routine of keeping up with our toddler and climbing the stairs to go to bed at night.

The pain meds help you sleep pretty comfortably too .... Craig
