Conundrum......

I'm scheduled to have surgery the morning of June 6th....I work nights, 12hr shifts. I work the night of June 4th and 5th which would put me going straight from work to have surgery. Should I reschedule the surgery, or is this not a huge deal?

Insanity is doing the same things over and over, but expecting different results.

since most docs require nothing to eat or drink after midnite, as long as you're okay with going without while you're working, shouldn't be a problem -- you'll just be going to sleep anyway!

The nothing to drink might be a challenge, but I was concerned mostly with starting out overly tired. Concerned it might hinder progress...............

I also work night shift and at the last minute I decided not to work the night before because of the NPO after midnight. I knew I would not being able to do it.

I'd rather not work the night before surgery for just plain peace of mind-- can you not discuss this with your boss or your surgeon's office? I bet the PA will write you a note excusing you from your shift :)

Even if you can't get off, still go ahead with the surgery.  That's not a big enough reason to change things.  Hell, staying busy at work might keep your mind from fretting.  You'll get plenty of sleep afterwards.

I had to do a colon purge the day before, and that kept me too busy going to the bathroom to work.   That would be my only concern.     Many don't have to do this, though...
