what would you do?
Wow, that is just WRONG! I hate confrontation, too, but the Dr. needs to know what his employees are doing! You will be doing others a favor as well - no one should be treated like that.
And, if the 90 days post-op are already covered, I would have an even bigger issue with them when they do this!
Hope you get it resolved!

I'm a pretty confrontational person by nature. I would probably make a comment like "you guys must really like me being that you're talking about me in the office". Or, something like I'm sorry are my calls bothering you ? Would you like to give me my surgeon's cell number I'm sure he wouldn't mind answering my questions. Without people like me you wouldn't have a job !!!
This irks me !! Jerks !!! I would try and talk directly to the surgeon maybe even email him. Sorry you're dealing with this.

My surgeon is never in the office, I didn't meet him until the day of my surgery and have never seen him again. However my surgeon does the seminars and if I was being treated like you are I would find out when the next seminar is and before he leaves hand him a letter. I would also leave their practice to have my follow up done by my PCP but I would certainly get a letter to him to let him know why I have left the practice even if I had to have it delivered by certified mail. You are paying them, they are your employees for that time you are being seen. You are paying them for their medical knowledge not for their "lip". There are many places on line to review a Dr and his staff, seek out everyone of the places to leave your review and be sure to include the staff review as part of the total package. It's not just the Dr thats important its your overall treatment.
I went to Mexico for my surgery, and all my follow-up care is thru my PCP - who also knows nothing about bariatric surgery but she's learning. With the VSG I believe it's a little easier because (barring actual surgical complications), mainly what we need is labs. I did ask her for a recommendation for a G-E, and have engaged him too. Because of his specialty he knows a bit more about bariatric surgery but the sleeve is new. But I feel like I have a pretty good medical team, in case anything happens.
Although I tend to be confrontational, this is one of those situations where you have an easy alternative that will make you feel a lot more comfortable and still keep you in touch with your surgeon's practice if you ever need them. Talk to your PCP first and make sure he/she is comfortable with taking over your care - no reason why he/she shouldn't be, but I'd check. Tell them you had a partial gastrectomy since the term "sleeve" seems to confuse a lot of GPs. Have your records moved.
Your complaints about your surgeon's office are your perceptions of their attitude. Trying to prove an attitude is next to impossible until you encounter flat-out rudeness. Right now, they've taken your calls and answered your questions. The PA's comment about you being "infamous" could be chalked up to the fact that you had some significant complications, so, sure, they've been talking about you. I'm not saying that's what happened, 'cause we've all had people blow attitude at us. It's just proving that attitude is being blown at you isn't do-able.
So simplify your life and shift your care over to you PCP.

It doesn't matter what they think, this is your health. Ask the questions you need to ask and call when you are uncertain. NEVER FEEL BAD ABOUT CALLING!!
Next time you see the PA tell them that you feel uncomfortable that they think you are "infamous" and that you hope that infamy doesnt equate you being ingored or dismissed.
