Newbie, Hello, some concerns, come say hello!!!
Hello and welcome.
I am sorry that the people that you need to support you are so myopic and narrow-minded. I really am. How wonderful that they are geniuses when it comes to weight loss! Dang, all of us must be idiots! It is just a state of mind! HA!!!
You and you only can choose whether wls is for you. I can only tell you that after 2 months the only thing I regret is not having my sleeve done years ago.
Selfish? No, I don't think you are selfish. Woman you have 4 children who love you! They deserve their mama to be happy and healthy.
Do you have anyone to help with the kids and take care of you when you have surgery? Talk to people at the seminars, maybe someone can get you some help.
In the mean time, square your shoulders and know that you deserve the BEST life you can get. So do your kids!
Happy Mother's Day, mama!!!!!!!
as far as the lack of support from friends and family? if they are saying "overweight is a state of mind" it means they are ignorant and clueless, and you need to do what YOU need to do, which in the end will prove them to be the fools that they are....
seek out a local support group in your area -- find people who will support you and help you out
if taking steps to save your own life is selfish, then you go on and be selfish!!!
good luck in your journey!

Hi, I'm 50 and have a very different situation. But I would like to say my heart goes out to you. I felt like I wast trapped. Trapped in a fat body that wouldn't let me do what I wanted to do. I can imagine you feel trapped too... now by family.
I decided to have the surgery in Aug and by the end of Nov ... it was done. I had a cancer scare that made me decide to live a different life. A life not trapped in a fat body.
I did tell my family and didn't ask them... I told them. My husband got behind me with full support and my kids are all grown. Again, we are different but I do think that the skepticism that you experienced is so feared by many of us that we don't tell many people that we are having or have had the surgery.
Continue to make good decisions. Find your support. Do what you need to do to drop some weight. It's because you are thinking of your kids that VSG may be the right decision.
I would have never believed that in 6 months I would be down over 70 lbs. My daughter said the other day that I am the smallest she can ever remeber... she is 29 .
I love my sleeve
