My secret fear...

So here it is...

I am so worried that I won't be able to break my low weight that I have achieved on my own before :-(

7 years ago I did Atkins hard core for about 6 months and lost 70 lbs... I was down to 220.

I packed it all back on and then some going up to 315.

I went back on to serious low carb 6.5 WEEKS ago and have lost 40 pounds already!

I am thrilled, but then I think... why can't I do this on my own?

I know the answer... I can't keep it off :-(  Just like 95% of people who loose weight.

But what if I go through all of this and I still can't get below 220?

That is my secret fear... I can't get past it and I can't rationalize it away.  I try to tell myself that I'd be happy to land there... but it is a lie.  I'd be very disapointed if that was the best I could do.

I'm worried that I'll be setting myself up to stall there if I keep obsessing about it :-(

Am I NUTS???

I also worry that my wight loss will slow way down after surgery...

I think we all share your secret fear.  I still fear that I will be the one person whose sleeve does NOT work.  My mind plays vicious tricks on me!!!

Hang in there.

Mine was getting below 200 lbs. As you can see, I made it and you will too. Talk back to those sabotaging thoughts. Tell them this time it will be different.

You are not nuts, I have that fear as well.  I have lost almost 70lbs since surgery and that is the most I have ever lost at one time, but I am not lower than my lowest.  I want to celebrate that weight loss but I feel like I have to get to 155 before I feel close to a success.

I guess we just have to wait and see, and take each day by day.  And try, try try to be happy where we are because that will keep the momentum going.  good luck

YOu are not nuts and having WLS will HELP you to keep it off but those same reasons you gained before old habits, etc are still there and you will have to deal with that.  This is a lifetime and you CAN do it but you have to believe in yourself.

Your story sounds exactly like mine. I lost great on atkins 3 or 4 different times I could handle for about six months and would lose 50 or 60 lbs, I think my lowest was 218 doing that. but every time I would gain it all back and then some. I love my sleeve because it keeps me from falling off the bandwagon. I can still eat the wrong things but I eat 1 cookie instead off the whole box. I love my sleeve because I don't have to deprive myself to lose the weight I just east like a normal skinny person. You can get past your old plateaus and it feels awesome!

My magic "low number" was 208. That was the lowest I had ever gotten on my own before. I had the same fear as you, as I kept getting closer to it. "what if this is it?" and let me tell you, the day I stepped on the scale and saw 206 (completely skipped 207..thanks body!) I did a fist pump on the scale. it WILL work for you. We are all proof that if you work with your tool, it won't let you down. :)

Thanks guys!!!  I am totally committed to putting in the work!!!

I feel like I know I can't win the fight with 95% chance of regain... I have fought and lost before and I get frustrated and give up.

I can TOTALLY fight against a 20% chance of regain... I like those odds much better!!!

Oh sweetie I think we all have those fears and go through exactly what you are going through. The beginning of this year I was kicking butt going to the gym and eating really low carb and high protein and I was losing weight. I said to myself wow maybe I can do this myself....next thing you know I got back to no gym and eating more.....8 pound weight gain...same weight I lost..): I know that this is a tool and I need it to lose weight and KEEP It off. We need to realize we can and will do this and be successful. That is why we are here....to see the success of others and realize this dream will be a reality.
