I'm dizzy!

I have been on two blood pressure medications, and starting yesterday, suddenly I can't stand up from sitting without getting super dizzy.  I was in Costco (buying the $5-off Premium shake cases), looking at something on a lower shelf and when I stood up, I had to go right back down into a squat.  I felt pretty certain that I would have passed out if I hadn't.  I stopped my lisinopril today w/ Dr's blessing, still taking 25 of hydrochlorithiazide (she wanted me to).  Today, I have been super focused on fluids, probably have had ~60 ounces so far, still experiencing the dizziness.

I'm seeing my Dr. in the morning, but I don't know how much experience she's had with WLS patients.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Was it anything other than needing to lower BP meds?

Thanks!
Jenny

i experience the same thing. but i'm still on bp meds and my bp is controlled (check it daily) so i know it wasn't that for me.

it was because i hadn't had anything to eat in about 4 hours. so i stopped and got some soup, and felt better. it was my lack of protein and my body not adjusting. i hope you feel better and it's nothing serious

Dizziness when moving from sitting to standing like you are describing definitely sounds like orthostatic hypotension. It would be interesting to get an update from you after you see your doctor to see if she does adjust the BP meds and if it resolves.

I have been experiencing this as well lately, but am not on any BP meds.

Just be sure to take your time when changing positions...no falls!

I experienced lightheadness and dizziness too. I am not taking BP meds at all anymore and I found that it was caloric intake that made a difference. I now have light cranberry juice in the house. I have found I feel best if I am eating every 3 hours. Just a little something.

Yup,
Sounds like it's time taper off the meds, but only your PCP or your Cardiologist can make that call. I was on 80 mg per day of Micardis (blood pressure), 50 of HCTZ (water retention), a baby Aspirin 81 mg (blood pressure), & 40 mg of Simvistatin (cholesterol) daily. The surgeon told me to stop the HCTZ & the Aspirin back before my surgery. Post-op he told me not to restart them. When I got the dizzy spells (after I had lost about 80 Lbs) I was allowed to cut the Micardis in half. Recently during a followup with my PCP he told me that when I drop to 300 or below I can stop the Micardis & the Simvistatin too! I've been on lots of meds for the past 20 years. The big side benefit of the sleeve is getting off the damn meds!

I get dizzy.  I was on 2 bp meds and the and my PCP took me off one and it helpd a lot.  Now, I get dizzy when my water intake is low or I wait too long to eat.  I try to do what I can to avooid getting dehydrated and eat before too much time has passed.

Would assume that your doctor will want you to check your BP regularly.  I would give it another day or so without the lisinopril, it has to clear your system.  I'd also be surprised if she doesn't lower your dyazide.

I have BP problems but I also have inner ear problems.  Sometimes my dizzies are caused by allergies irritating myh inner ear.  Good that you're going to the doc.

Will think positive thoughts for you!  Keep up the hydration too!

Same thing happened to me,  my surgeon told me to stop the water pill day of surgery, then about a week and a half post op i felt dizzy upon standing and having my own bp machine i checked it daily and it was very low,  called pcp and cut the verapamil i was on in half  and she told me to monitor it and about 2 1/2 weeks quit taking that half as well.  My bp now is about 111/65 daily.  I'm sure that's probably it.   But always important  to get in all your fluids   good luck  jeani

Good call folks, I forgot to mention that I bought one of those BP machines (eastshoremedical.com) that wrap around your forearm and I use it 2X daily. For $20 it's well worth it too.
I truly hope it's something wonderful like improved BP and not anything problematic!... Craig
