I went for my 6 week post-op yesterday, through conversation I let the cat out of the bag that I wasn't getting my protein in. The nurse told me to go to smoothie king and get the "Gladiator" which is a low carb drink sweetin by the fruit of your choice. but it has 45 grams of protein.

Can you tell me what "low carb" is?  I hear that a lot but sometimes the carbs are 2/3rds the protein which in my book is not "low carb".  I try to keep carbs at least half the protein.   (30grams protein vs 15grams or less carbs  Sounds almost too good to be true...LOL!

Elaine, it taste better than those darn protein shakes........ The best part about it you can get the 45gm of protein in the small one, you select the combo of fruits, I would stick to the berries to keep the sugar low. but mine was great.

Mo it was good! It's thick because of the protein but still good. You select the combo of fruits.

If you go to Smoothie King, becareful of the shakes they make.  They add two scoops of fruit to a 20 oz smoothie (45 gms protein) which may add 20+ Carbs.   Ask them to only use one scoop if you want fruit in it.

Although it is more expensive than buying the big tub of powder ($44 for 20 servings at our local store), I go in and buy the single packets of Gladiator powder (2 of each Strawberry, Choc, Vanilla for $2.49 ea) and make my own smoothies.  I only do one smoothie a day so I figure less than $3 a meal is not too bad.  I use 8 oz skim milk, 10 oz ice and 1 pkt of powder (= to two scoops).  If I don't use fruit it's 270 cal, 13 carbs 0 fat and 53 gm of protein.  If you don't use skim milk, it's 180 cal, 1 carb and 45 protein.

I also use Jay Robb brand (on his website or GNC) using the same 8 oz skim milk, 10 oz ice for 200 cal, 13 carbs 0 fat and 33 protein (using one scoop).  Jay Robb has more flavors than the Gladiator.

Smoothie King has a website or pamphlets in the store of the nutritional content of their "standard" shakes.  If you customize it, especially with fruit, it ups the carbs.  http://www.smoothieking.com/smoothies/nutritional-chart.php
