Whoever said, "There is nothing to fear but fear itself" LIED!
Well, I'd question that something was wrong with me if I wasn't scared! LOL And I am glad that others freely admit their fears on OH too. Yes, this place is a wonderful resource! I've learned so much. Many times, I questioned my sanity about things, and I saw others on here struggling with the SAME things! I love OH!!
Waiting... I HATE IT! But, good things come to those who wait!

As someone who has lost a signifcant amount of weight once before, I can tell you that the hardest part of the whole process is getting the ball rolling; that's why you hear so many people say the pre-op diet is harder than the post-op diet in a lot of ways.
For the first few months after surgery, it will not be an option to eat anything other than the foods and portions your surgeon has given you clearence for (unless you want to run the risk of a leak, which obviously you don't). You're essentially re-learning how to eat from square one... there's a reason baby food is one of the options in the mushie stage!
The longer you're following a healthy eating lifestyle, the easier it gets to maintain... that much I do remember. You're training your brain to adapt new behaviors and abandon the old ones. It won't happen overnight, but it WILL happen if you follow your instructions and keep coming back here for support when you need it.
Once you're in the maintenance stage, you can slip back into old habits (I'm proof of that, having ballooned to 360 from 190), but the trick is to catch yourself when you do. Keep an eye on the scale and if you see it going in the wrong direction, evaluate what you're doing differently (did you let sugar and carbs creep back in? are you slacking on exercise?) and get back to basics before it gets out of control.
We can do this, Sun sister! Monday's the day for me... I'll be sure to post details from my experience as soon as I can, hopefully in time for you to see it before you go in on Wednesday!

I have to keep telling myself that it won't happen over night. It's not a special delivery of skinny in 3 to 5 business days! LOL
Wow, from 190 to 360... You've reminded me that if I DON'T follow the rules, I won't be able to maintain my weight and I'm paying too much money NOT to lose and keep this weight off.
WE CAN and will do this, my Sunny Sista! You did it before, and you will do it again! Take comfort in that!
WOW, MONDAY! I'll be right behind you on Wednesday! Pray for me as I pray for you!

I am self pay as well. I have spent $100 here, $300 there on weight loss efforts that didn't work and left me feelling stupid for trying. Well, $10,000 is a whole different ballgame. I am also afraid that I will be "the one" that this doesn't work on.....I totally understand. Also, since I have been on the fast track, I didn't have long to lose my preop weight and the last 1 1/2 pound keep reappearing!!!! My surgery is in 4 days. Good luck to you!!
Yes, that's me....that I will be that .00001% that fails... BUT it's time out for either of use to think negatively. SHOOT, by this time next week, it will be over and our new lives will begin! Isn't that awesome!
