Question #2

So, here is my second question.  My surgeons office really feels like that if I submit all of my requirements to insurance on the 3rd of June, that I should be approved and sleeved by the end of June.  In a perfect world, where there are no complications, etc.. do you think I could fly from GA to New Mex. for a 2-3 week visit with my mom at about 2 weeks post-op??  I would not be doing anything differently there, than I would be doing at home, but I would be flying, and would be away from my surgeon.  Do you think this is wishful thinking, or do you think it would be ok? ( as I said, IF everything went smoothly)  I don't think of it as being any different than people who go to Mexico from the States to get sleeved, and then travel back home again.   What do you think?

I had my sleeve done in Mexico on Monday May 2nd and flew home on Friday May 6th. I was able to walk the airports, albeit slower than usual. The flight itself didn't cause any discomfort. Today, I am 17 days out and have absolutely no pain anymore. I could have almost run through the airports, if I had flown this week.

Good luck!

Revision from sleeve to RNY is set for January 13, 2014.

Thanks, Heidi. I guess, too, I worry about getting my tickets and then having problems! I don't really have $1200 to waste on airfare for me and my kids if I can't go because of some complication. ya know? It's all just a gamble, I guess.
You look like you have started off on the right foot!! 24 lbs?? That is great!!

Buy travel insurance. It will cover you (I am almost sure) if you cannot travel for medical reasons. And don't lift your suitcase.

I had a very considerable amount of pain.  Very abnormal from what my surgeon told me, he figured my liver got bruised or I had a hematoma in my belly.  But even with my amount of pain I had I would have been very ok with flying at 2 weeks post op.  By that time my pain was decreasing, not gone but decreasing. So good luck and have fun on your trip.

The flying probably won't be a problem but being away from home right away might be. I really had to focus to follow the program and learn how to eat. I also had to work hard at getting my liquids in. It was a process and I had to learn how to live with my tiny little tummy.

I felt really really good but I'm glad I had time off from work to tend to myself. You may be in a better place for visiting Mom in a couple of months rather than right away.
