VSG'ers ---What 'cha growing this summer ???!!
After looking at Frisco's caprese salad, I got to thinking about all the yummy things growing in my garden this spring - for the summer; and was thinking about new and fun ways to prepare fresh vegies and fruits.
Sooooo......what are ya'all growing in your gardens ? ! Any regional specialities ?
I live in the high desert of California. I just stick some seasonal vegies in and around my flower cutting garden each year. Our last frost was supposed to be 4/15; but had a late frost that killed my cucumbers and pepper plants. Just replanted some of those.
Right now, I have a couple bell pepper plants, japanese and american eggplant, yellow crockneck squash, zuchinni squash, 4 types of tomatoes, artichokes, and some bush beans. I have alot of herbs too -- annual basil and dill, and oregeno, thyme, sage, mint, garlic and onions.
I also have an almond, apple, pear tree and a few grape vines.
Anyone else got a summer garden going ?

Just herbs that I use regularly (greek oregano, basil, flat leaf parsley, cilantro) and a few strawberry plants..
Last year I had some wonderful heirloom tomatoes - Dr Wyches yellow & Black from Tula.. OMG, I lived on tomato sandwiches that summer... Figured I'd skip it this year since I won't be nibbling that much on the veggies- next year maybe!

I'm still putting in my usual although I realize some of it may be on the DO NOT EAT list.
Heirloom tomatoes - one each of 6 different varieties
Heirloom Cukes - 2 hills
Heirloom Cantaloupe - 2 hills
Heirloom Watermelon - 1 hill
Basil
Cilantro
Beets
Lettuce mix
Onions
I live alone so I don't plant a lot of anything. These are my favorites.
After looking at Frisco's most recent meal photo, I don't know how I can wait for another 3 months for my tomatoes to be ready to eat. It's the pits living in Minnesota.

I have about 8 varieties of tomato both heirloom and hybrid, serranos, jalapenos, bells, wax peppers, greenbeans, okra, corn, tomatillos, basil, eggplant, chard, lettuce, zuchinni both black and green, patty pan squash, yellow crookneck, flying saucer squash, turbin, pumpkin, watermelon, cantaloup, several varieties of Vietnamese basil and greens and a Vietnamese white watermelon. (my d-i-l is Vietnamese and lives in Vietnam so she sends me all kinds of interesting seeds including some very exotic flowers that I have never been able to bloom) I can, freeze, dehydrate and powder many of my veggies .
