African American Women, slower losers???

That's what my pcp said when I went for my physical Fri afternoon.  She said that she was very pleased with my 45 lb weight loss in a little under 3 months, especially since African American  and latino women statistically are slower losers when it comes to WLS.  So to my women of color that have had wls, do you find that you are losing at a slower rate?

I lost 43lbs in 6 weeks I have stalled but working on that .  I do know my frame is wide so that could be one of the reasons.  I hope to be down 75lbs by my 6 month visit in August!

I hope that's not true.  I'd like to see those statistics.

I have loss almost 70 in 6 months and that's only because I've added things back into my diet that need not be there for now.  I think if I was on my grind like I was at the beginning, I would have loss more.

Well all of you ladies seem to be doing great! I would love to see those statistics as well.  Mind you, my pcp isn't a woman of color herself, but that was her comment to me nonetheless.

Here is an interesting link that talks a little about african american women losing weight at a slower rate.

I found this online - just a quick search, but I think its interesting.

I'm curious where she got her info from as well? When I met with my surgeon, and she is African Ameican, she told me VSG'rs don't typically get to goal weight. I looked straight at her and asked her what's to stop me?? She looked back at me and grinned and said good point!

I'm part of a national study group that will track my VSG results for the rest of my life. The paperwork they gave me at my surgeons office stated this was the first long term comprehensive study ever done for VSG'rs...so where are the the actual scientific facts?? I'm sorry, surgeon scuttlebutt just doesn't cut it.

From what I'm reading you ladies are doing phenominal...so keep rocking your sleeves, Sisters!!

Hugs,
Heidi

I'm Native American so all I can tell you is the majority of the people that responded have lost more than me or just under me.  I guess we are all in the same gene pool or so I have been told.  I am happy with a loss every month and if it is a lot or a little as long as it's gone for good I don't really care what the Professionals say...LOL!

Sorry but I am going to rant for a minute.

Every damn disease "we" are more prone to get. By the medical establishment we all have heart disease, cancer, aids, sickle cell, diabetes-- sheets you name it and we have it. Then you have some I'll informed doctors that will throw out crap as fact and we are supposed to believe them because they went to medical school.

Nope, not buying it. The majority of us have a mixed gene pool so how can they even get an accurate study? I look at my local African neighbors and they are mostly slim. I know we all have some genetic differences but I really would've challenged that Dr.
