Tips for the gym? Workouts
For people like us who are trying to lose a lot of weight, but keep muscle, I find a circuit training in which your heart rate stays up for almost the entire routine is the best. I stay away from machines and do things like walking lunges, sideways squats, rope pulls, push-ups, etc. I find those really can keep my heart rate up.

When I was working out, prior to surgery, this is what I did. I did upper body one day, a day break, and ABS the next day. I did cardio each day.
Do half an hour of cardio…you can break this up into 3 ten minute intervals or do it all at once.
Upper and lower body circuit
Do this circuit 3 times:
- 15 basic squats
- 15 forward lunges on each leg, don’t alternate
- 15 backward lunges on each leg, don’t alternate
- 10 bicep curls
- 15 overhead presses
- 15 tricep kickbacks
- 10 push-ups
- 10 dips
ABS
Do this circuit 3 times:
-30 second basic plank
- 15 second side plank, on each side
- 25 basic crunches
- 25 bicycle crunches
- 15 leg raises
Of course, I always worked up to this :) Sometimes I just did the ellipcial for 30 minutes.
