Did you have Dr Jones in MN? How much can you eat?
Hi! I am almost 5 weeks out. Dr Jones performed my VSG at Methodist.
I am currently on soft foods. I am supposed to eat 3 times a day, with no snacks (except a glass of milk 3 times a day). The guidance they gave me is: one cup of yogurt or one egg or 1/4 slice of toast with peanut butter, or 1-2 onces of meat and 1/4 cup vegetable.
I found that I can eat this much comfortably (and stay within 600 - 800 calories a day, and having 64 oz of fluids a day...):
Breakfast: 1 egg and 1 low fat turkey sausage link
or 4 onces yogurt
or one egg
or one egg and .25 cup low fat cheese
Snack: Nonfat 16 oz latte (instead of milk)
Lunch:
2 oz lean meat and 1/4 cup fruit
Snack: 8 oz milk
Dinner:
2 ounces ground low fat turkey with taco seasoning and just under .25 cup fat free refried beans and 1/8 cup lettuce and 1/8 cup low fat cheese and 1 TBSP fat free sour cream and
1 black olive, cut up
or 2 onces lean meat and .25 cups veggies or fruit
Snack (sometimes I skip this): 8 oz milk
Compared to others on the board, this feels like a lot. How does this compare to the amount you eat for a meal? Should I be concerned?
Thanks!
Lisa

I'm earlier out than you so can't really comment, but wanted to say HI! I had Dr. Jones too and was sleeved 2 weeks ago. :) I can't WAIT to get to purees and regular foods!!! Still on full liquids here. Thicker things like greek yogurt or cream of wheat I have a harder time getting down and do maybe 1/4 C. Cream soup, however, I can easily finish my 1/2 C serving.
Good luck to you! Maybe I'll see you in the waiting room sometime or at their support group. :)

Hi Lisa. 14 weeks tomorrow, same Doc, same Hospital.
I get 3 meals and a high protein snack (yogurt or a turkey stick or handful of nuts) in the afternoon because I have a long wait between 1:00 lunch and 9:00 pm supper.
My meals are 2 oz of dense protein (beef, chicken, turkey, pork, etc) or up to 4 oz of soft/loose proteins (eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, chili, shreaded cheese), then a tablespoon or 2 of veggies, sometimes fruit, and a bite of carbs IF I still have room. Usually, I don't.
Follow what the Nut says, because I am tall for a woman, and have a lot to lose. She says how much and how often and what foods change for each person's size, age and how much they need to lose.
Take care.

Hi! I am excited to meet with my Nut again... I'll have lots of questions for her :) I still have my hunger, and get hungrey 2-3 hours after a meal. I REALLY would like to swap out the milk for something proteiny like a cheese stick in the morning and afternoon, but I don't want to do it without her permission...

This is all good information to hear. I am going through Dr Jones a well. I am scheduled for the informational seminar on the 7th of June, I am so anxious and impatient and cant wait to see if I will qualify through my insurance and get the go ahead for surgery. I am so proud of you guys and wish you continued success!
I had Dr. Jones as well. Looking at what you eat, my diet is almost the same as yours. The only difference is that I drink a protein shake in the morning and skip the glasses of milk during the day. I am almost 2 months out, I do snack, but it usually a string cheese in the afternoon or morning if I start to get hungry between meals. I think what you are eating is fine, as long as your gettting your protein in. I eat around 600-800 calories a day as well and my weight loss is still good. I have lost 37lbs since surgery.
