I'm a week and a day and am in MORE PAIN THAN THE 2ND DAY POST OP!
I have an incension on the upper right hand side of my tummy that is hurting soooooooooooooo BAD! It started hurting from no it isn't oozing or anything or bleeding. However, it feels like someone cut the insde of my belly again and poured alcohol in it. I have been crying and am about to again. I can't seem to get e return call from my dr. Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me. Do I need to just go to the hospital?
my dream medication for abdominal surgery was "polysporin with the antibiotic and anasethetic" I applied it every 4-6 hrs if I missed an application I would always find that it would take about 2 hrs for the anasethetic to work. I know they rather your incisions out in the open air to heal faster but sometimes they just need a boost and you want to move around and do some stuff. If and when I get this surgery done I definitely will have a few tubes of it on the go and be ready for it probably after the first week or two.
It does sound like an infection though with the feeling of alcohol being poured onto it and you should probably have it checked out but in the meantime if the polysporin is the only thing that will make it feel better, I would attempt it. Is it red and swollen?

Geez, I empathize with your pain. I must've lucked out during my procedure. Except for some awesomely terrific pain in recovery and when the catheter was removed the next day (major OWIE) I've been pain-free.
If your doctor isn't returning your calls look for a Bariatric Center of Excellence [http://www.asmbs.org/]. They're required to help people that have had Bariatric surgery regardless of where they had it.
Good luck.

It sounds similar to a post I put up the other day... sorry to say it, but I think it's just a normal part of the healing process
. Just keep up with your pain meds (or re-start them if you stopped), that should take the edge off. Be careful when you move, but keep moving... your body needs to learn how these wounded areas will be expected to function so it can heal properly.

My pain level varied a bit the first week or two. I remember days that I felt more pain than the day before, then the next would be better. I also had more pain on the right and only slight discomfort on the left. I believe the one that hurt the most was the one they did the most work through. The worst pain for me was when I would sit down or stand up. Once I was either up or down I was fine, just getting there was painful. I didn't take enough of the pain meds, I tended to take tylenol. I should have just taken the pain meds. No reason to be miserable!
I agree with variable. Contact a Bariatric Center of Excellence (COE) and ask them about it. That being said, I know the pain you've described because I had it too. It hurts REALLY bad! Mostly, I was OK as long as I was sitting down. It was when I stood up and walked that it gave me the most discomfort.
If yours is the same type of pain I had, it will go away on its own. Mine was caused by the healing/dissolving of internal stitches - just a normal part of the healing process. It started about a week out and lasted about 5 days. I went back to work after 1 week at home (I have a desk job). I wore a compression garment to work and that seemed to help ease the pain.
Good luck to you and let us !know what the verdict is on your pain. Sharing your experiences with others on this site helps everyone!
