Great job with the weight loss. It's funny, you and I have the same surgeon and our stats (height, starting weight) are about the same too. I am a little further out than you and I can appreciate your story because it could have been me writing it (except for the 5 kids-you are truly Wonder Woman!) Also, I've been running since March so if you want someone to run that 5k with you, just let me know. Again, congratulations on your success!

Hi there, DuanesGirl.  Are you in cinci?  I live just north of Columbus.  Just loved Dr Curry/and staff.  I would love any advise you could give me in regards to running.  I never in a million years would have thought I'd be "into"  exercise, let alone running!  Did you train using c25k?  This is all so new and exciting for me!

Hi Jennifer!  I am in Northern Kentucky, so I'm guessing the Evendale office for Dr. Curry is about mid-way(ish)  between the 2 of us.  I did my own little version of C25k.  I started walking on the treadmill end of February/early March and by mid-March was running VERY SLOWLY on the treadmill.  We had a local 5k race the end of March, not too far from my house.  I decided I was going to sign up for it.  My goals?  RUN the whole 5k and try to finish in under 40 minutes (I told you I was slow!).
Not only did I run the entire race, I finished in 34:09 and came in 1st for my age group.  (If I was 1 year older I would have been 6th-those older *****es are FAST.  LOL)
Anyway, flush from my personal running victory, I promptly set my sights on a new challenge:  the Flying Pig 10k which was a mere 1 month away (April 30th).  I told my husband and was met with silence.  "Too fast?", I asked.  He said he thought so.
We compromised.  I said I was going to train for it but not sign up until closer to the race so that way I could see (him too), whether or not I could do it.  I pulled a training schedule off the internet and got started.  I signed up, along with my 19 yo daughter, and we did it!  (It was her first 10k too).  She finished in 52:06 and I finished in 1:06:42.  I ran the entire race and beat the time I was shooting for.
All through this process, I found a saying that became my own personal mantra:  Excruciatingly Slow, beats Did Not Finish, beats Did Not Start.  (Basically a longer version of Nike's 'Just Do It').
I would be happy to help you with the running but I'm just going to tell you now-IT'S ADDICTIVE.  LOL  I hope you enjoy it as much as I've learned to!

Sorry for the long post!

Wow, thanks for the feedback!  I think you did exceedingly well in both races.  Good for you!  I began walking on my treadmill 2 1/2 months ago and could barely do a mile.  Day after day I attempted to go faster and before I knew it I was running!  Now don't get me wrong, I am still so out of shape.  At this point 90 seconds is all I can handle.  My best is 2 miles in 28min/18sec walking and running.  Hope the 5k this fall doesn't kill me.  LOL.  I never in a million years thought I'd say this but....exercise is becoming addictive!  Hugs........Jennifer

Congratulations Jengo!  You are doing great!  Thanks so much for posting your story.  It helps all of us and gives us motivation when we see someone elses success.  I think that deep down, we all have that nagging little voice telling us we will fail at this too, but true journey stories help to keep that voice at bay.  Keep up the good work!
