One of the perks of wls (food porn involved here)
I love grilling and smoking, and that fits perfectly with the WLS lifestyle. I really enjoy the "act" of food all the more now. I've always loved cooking. But its importance in comparison to the actual eating is now greater. I started Steven Raichlen's South Carolina pulled pork at about 9am on Saturday, enjoy the smell of smoke and mopping it all day long. I served it with a mustard sauce, alongside roasted potato salad and slaw for the others. Just wanted to say, it's totally possible to love food after weightloss surgery. Just now, I'm in control. It's a healthy relationship, not an abusive one

Me too! I bought a smoker about a month ago and my 10 year old and I are perfecting our turkey jerky technique. It is fun! The first batch was not good, but the last couple have been great! Moving on to salmon next. We've also done beef jerky (yum) and completely wasted a brick of cheese, haha.

Amen sister! I am so glad you said that. I thought I was the only one. Most people tend to say it's not worth it, but to me it's worth it....in MUCH smaller portions is all.

That looks great and I must say your comments have soooo encouraged me! I'm set for surgery in a couple of weeks and have truly been mourning what I think will mean giving up all the cooking I do. You see I'm from the south too and I am a true home-grown southern cook! Seeing all this talk about smokers has reminded me just how great all the smoked meat will be and that I can still engage in all that fun. My issue right now is getting over giving up a lot of baking like sour cream pound cakes, lemon meringue pies, etc. I never really ate alot as I have a lapband right now but I do love to lick the bowl :)) I'm praying for strength and also that I am making the right decision doing a vsg instead of the rny due to my sweet tooth.
