People with hunger - does a real snack help?

I have planned snacks....mid morning usually a yogurt, or a slice/slic and a half of lower fat cheese. I drive alot for work, so if I get dumb and forget to pack something I have little packages of almonds/cashews. (200 cal. packs) I eat half for a snack.

I call my lunches (YES PLURAL) Lunch 1 and Lunch 2. I almost always eat twice in the afternoon. 1 to 2 oz protein (tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, chopped meats...) and a bite or two of a vegie (sliced tomoato, cucumber....). I try to make that total 3 oz of protein for lunches.

If I didn't do that, I would be hungry and I would never get enough protein in me.

My plan says I am to eat 6 times per day. That would be 3 meals and 3 snacks. Just had a Baby Bell cheese to hold me over until I get to go to lunch. Cannot see how you could get in close to your protein minimum on just 3 meals with the amount we can eat at one time.

I have 3 meals and 3 protein snacks daily. I eat 600-800 calories per day and snacks are included in this number. I met my weight loss goal and have maintaing without a problem and snacks are still part of my eating plan.

I snack on Greek yogurt, cheese, pumpkin seeds, beef jerky, protein shakes, beef and fish.

FYI, you guys are awesome :)  So good to hear that I'm not a freak for feeling that I should be having something solid between my full meals...

I have the same surgeon and the same hunger.  But, I'm still on full liquids.  So, I was hoping it'd get better when I got to denser proteins... maybe not.  I'll be curious to follow what happens with you since you're a few weeks ahead of me.  Definitely call the NUT.

Usually a few sips of my drink helps keep the hunger at bay, but I also think I'd have a hard time getting all my fluids in without the milk and if I had to not drink before and after 3 snacks a day... hmmm...

Note... I'm definitely not as hungry now as I was a few weeks ago, when I was on full liquids and pureeds.  Dense proteins make it a little better.

Today's a great example of how my hunger kind of sucks... I had my breakfast at 6, a skim latte instead of milk around 8, and at 10am, I'm hungry.  Sipping water doesn't help it...

I too am concerned about getting all my water in, if I cannot drik before and after the snacking... Maybe I'll give it a try today, and see what happens :)  Mr Light yogurt, here I come!

There is no way in hell, or anywhere else for that matter, that I could function on that.  I have my calories, I divvy them up into meals.  A piece of cheese was never going to tide me over.  Now, an ounce of meat would do much better than an ounce of cheese, but cheese?  Nah.

I have eaten small meals throughout the day since the beginning, but they are small planned meals, so they do not look like "snacking/grazing" (and I am using them interchangeably in the context of "oh, hey, that looks good, bite here, bite there, nomnom, little bitta this little bitta that, not as a planned consumption).

It worked for me through my losing and 1-/2 years of maintenance. Cannot say I face any issues with eating like that.
With not eating like that?  High chances of getting too hungry and trying to eat too much, or some not being enough to satisfy my crazed starving self.

Works for me.

Go on with your bad planned snack self.  :}  I hope you find something that works for you.  Ultimately, I have found *for me* that not losing my hunger hasnt been a hassle at all, I just got to  learn the things that ultimately kept me satisfied for longest, and that some was enough.

When I am not trying to have a marathon not eatingfest, my hunger is reasonable and its satisfied by a reasonable amount..

hooray for reasonable!  :}

So... here's my update... Had my one month (more like 6 week) check in with the bariatrician and dietician.

The dietician would really prefer that I stick to liquids, because they believe solid snacks lead to mindless eating.  Normally, they don't recommend solid food snacks until you are farther out.

However... She agreed that my time between meals is too far.  She thought my water and protein intake was good.  She said I could try the solid snack thing, and check back in with her in a month...

Oddly, the bariatrician was all onboard with me having planned, high protein snacks :)
