My surgery is in 5 weeks. The surgeon wants me to lose 10-20 lbs. before surgery. I have lost 8-9 lbs and can't seem to get with the program to lose more. I know how important this is but I just can't get myself to do it. ANy words of advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Leslie

You can do this!!!!!!! Do you drink regular soda? I did and just by switching to crystal light iced tea mixed with lemon-aid I lost 10 lbs without even trying! I also switched to things like frozen yogurt vs ice cream lower carb breads, more protein and I chewed gum like it was going out of style!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't stress too much - if your doc puts you on the 2 week liquid diet, you will loose more before surgery!  Keep eating healthy and making positive changes, and don't stress if the scale doesn't show it yet!

Are you tracking what you eat?  I use Sparkpeople.  Maybe if you do, you can see where you need to cut back...probably carbs would be the first thing.  You could replace 1 meal with a protein drink and eliminate or cut way back on bread and other carbs.  It's always been the quickest way for me to lose a few.

just remember, the sleeve is just a tool to help in restriction to lose weight, you yourself will be the factor to carry it forward. If you are having problems with change of lifestyle (and that is what it basically boils down to) now perhaps you need to assess your behavioural changes and wrap your head around exactly what this change in your life will be. Once the mind is made up, you will have no problem in dropping the pounds...

I haven't had my surgery yet, and I chalk up my weightloss to a "change of lifesyle and getting healthy". My surgery will just take me further to my goal.

I second atkins. I usually lost 15 on two weeks. I lost 45 in the 4 months pre-op. I was always good at losing on it but always gained it back and then some because I couldn't stick with it for more than 6 months! I would go carb crazy after that long! Good News is with my sleeve I can't go crazy!
45 lbs lost pre op
first goal 199 reached 2-3-11
second goal 175 reached 6-1-11

If in a pinch, do a liquid pre-op diet (if they don't have you doing one).  In 10 days I lost 25 lbs!

It was 4 adkins shakes and 1-2 cups steamed veggies

Try to do an Atkins diet or a 1 week detox of fruits/veggies. I lost 10 lbs doing 1 detox, then just eat a low glycemic diet from there
