Rice and the sleeve...

What do you all think about eating rice?  Any experience with it?  My nut. said I could give it a try now that I'm back to regular food, but I wanted to see what happened with those who have gone before me.

I can think of no benefit to eating rice. Low in protein, high in carbs... and it has the potential to expand in your sleeve, possibly causing discomfort. I'd avoid it.

Current weight: 170 lbs.

Once I reach goal, this cow will be killed & eaten... 2 ounces at a time.

Total includes 56 lbs. lost on 2-month low carb pre-op diet.  Start date 9/13/10.

i have eaten rice, steamed white rice, and nothing extreme has happened. the problem is though, that even two spoonfuls of rice and my tummy feels full, so that leaves very little room for protein. after a couple times of eating rice, and then getting full and having no room for things with more nutritional value, i just don't eat the tice anymore. i try to eat the protein first, and then when i just don't want anymore, i might have a very small bite of rice (or mashed potatoes, or something like that).

I'm with highaim and FatGuy (who by the way, is no longer fat). It's too filling and doesn't leave space for the good stuff we need.

Rice does not agree with me. I've tried it a few times and have had bad experiences so I just stopped eating rice. I no longer miss it and since I continue to limit my carbs it's to my benefit to not eat rice.

I haven't eaten white or brown rice since I was sleeved in February and now I don't eat it because of the high carbs, but if you're not worried about the carbs, then try it and see what happens, but I hope everything goes well.  At 4 months post op, I still cannot tolerate ground meat like beef and turkey so I'm avoiding it for a while.

Good Luck!

My opinion.......

Take it or leave it.......

I'm Japanese..........I had to say good by to rice like I knew it before......during weight loss I didn't touch the stuff.

Now in maintenance.....I have brought it back in very small amounts..... a bite here and a bite there....

Same goes for pasta, bread and such.....

I had a lot to lose and didn't have any room for error.....rice, bread, pasta is an error.....(in my opinion)

All Dr's are different, I was told no rice, ever again.  Since I am early out still, I have no plans to try it.  I try to eat everything for maximum nutrition and I don't see any value in eating rice.

Rice is a simple carb.  Especially this early out, if you want to maximize your weight loss, you should stay away from simple carbs.  There is no nutritional value in rice; it is basically a filler, and you now have such a small stomach that you must not fill up on things with no nutritional value.  Everything you put in your stomach should count for something nutritionally.  Eat protein first and veggies next, and you will have room for nothing else.

Also as a word of warning, eating simple carbs will cause you to crave more of the same.  Stay away from them :-)
