I'm on summer break and I am an amusement park fanatic! I love love love roller coasters, and I was wondering how long we should wait to ride them after surgery? I am 5 weeks out today, should I wait longer before trying any rides?

Thanks!!

Hi Haley, I am an amusement park fanatic too...this was one of the first questions I asked at my one week appointment.  I planned to go to an amusement park at 4 weeks and was told not to ride any roller coasters.  My RN said anything that might cause trauma to the stomach was a no no for a few months.  I would suggest you call your surgeon's office for his/her opinion.  Every surgeon is different!

I would trust nobody's advice but my surgeon on that one. Have fun! I hate roller coasters. Maybe with the new stomach I won't.... Hmmmm

I went five weeks out and I regret it.  I went to Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and went on the Superman coaster and I was sick for the rest of the day. It seems like I was getting motion sickness way easier than I did before and by the end of the ride I felt like I needed to hurl.  This was the first time ever for me because I have never had an issue with a ride making me feel queasy.  That feeling didn't subside until the next day.  So if I had it to do over I would have passes.

I'm a coaster fanatic too! I went on them at six weeks out and was fine.

I went to Disney World 8 weeks out and road EVERYTHING!! I'd try a mild-ish one and see how it goes. I would definitely stay away from Mission t0 Mars (I think it's called) at Epcot - LOTS of G-forces on that one.
