Gastritis?
So, they ran all these tests at the hospital today and found NOTHING wrong with my gallbladder, liver, etc. The doc decided it's "acute gastritis" and told me to take Vicodin and phenergan. Pain is intense... Seriously, it's like contractions in childbirth!! Anyone have this?? I read that it can occur after WLS. I hope it doesn't last long... It f***ing hurts!!

I'm 7 mos. out and having a severe nausea and diarrhea issue. I do have carafate and maybe I should get it out and take it? I'm taking phenergan and zofran and it's not helping the nausea. I feel like I have an ulcer. Worse at night. Can't eat much or drink much. Yuk! I hope we both get better soon. I had my GB out pre-op, so I know it's not that and it's far out for me to have a leak. I will cal my Dr. in the morning.
Did they do a HIDA scan to check the ejection fraction of your gallbladder? Even if you don't have stones, it could be malfunctioning and this causes a LOT of pain like you described. With the HIDA scan they give you something to cause your gallbladder to release bile - and measures how quickly it releases, if there is a leakage, or if your gallbladder is inflamed.
Hope everything resolves quickly! Stomach pain is no fun!

Hi Jeni,
I am not a Doctor/Nurse etc... (my disclaimer) I am with Lucy - I think you might need to press them on this... I had my gallbladder taken out a couple years ago - before my VSG. My gallbladder issues were atypical. I had intestinal issues, cramping, puking - when it first started I thought I had food poisoning. But then I seemed to get food poisoning ALOT. Especially after business dinners (filled wiht rich foods). Over time it progressed to pain after eating and during episodes acute pain in abdomin and spasms in my upper middle back.
ALL the tests said NO! No stones - gallbladder works fine. After several more episodes and two trips to the hospital they finally took my gallbladder out. While I didn't have stones I had sludge - sand - paste. Once that sucker was out I felt better and haven't had those issues since.
I truly hope you find what is ailing you very soon and that you feel better!!! Hugs to you girl.

I have had recurring bouts of similar problems (always diagnosed as gastritis, grrrrrr).
My stools (TMI, sorry) turn pale, and my abdomen swells (from just being fat- LOL- to being hard and MASSIVELY distended. My Dr. says that my intestines get so irritated and inflamed that they literally swell (distending my entire abdomen). I was even asked (by the Dr)... "are you SURE you aren't pregnant?" Like he didn't believe me, ha!
Anyway, something that helped calm the pain (besides all the meds) way putting a heating pad on my belly.
(((hugs))) and hopefully it will pass soon!
