Yes!!!  i was a popoholic with diet beverages but those days are gone. Flavored water has proven to be a good substitute. Hope this helps.

You're welcome and good luck on your surgery. Hope it is as smooth as mine was. Let me know if I can help further.

I too was a major diet coke addict before surgery.  I loved the stuff..it was my drink of choice.  But...I wanted the sleeve more than I wanted the DC..so I gave it up 1 month pre-op.  I did it before so I wouldn't have any withdrawal headaches and I didn't want to deal with that and surgery at the same time.  I have to tell you that I don't even miss it .  I have not taken even a sip since the moment I gave it up...it has been 13 months now.  I would suggest that you too don't even take a sip..it is not worth it.  I just didn't realize how bad it is for you and the bubbles are so bad for your new sleeve that it is not worth the risk.  I know that some people do without any problems..but I am not willing to take that chance.  You can do it!!  The sleeve is the best thing that I have ever done and no amount of diet coke is worth that feeling!  good luck to you...

Hi Judy,

My surgery is 7/6 and I gave up Diet Coke and regular coffee & caffeine about two weeks ago. I still feel sluggish in the mornings at times, but every day it gets better. I like another poster said did not want to deal with withdrawal headaches post-op. I do miss Diet Coke, but am enjoying decaf iced tea, lemonade and water.

Good luck - our dates are pretty close so we can share the journey!

It's interesting to see some of you are drinking diet coke and others.... my surgeon said that any carbonated beverages were to be excluded in perpetuity since the carbonation will help to stretch the stomach back out.  Anyone else told that?

I am not going to be drinking Diet Coke after my surgery July 18th.  Actually, I am going to give it up a week or two before my surgery to avoid "withdrawl".  I know the carbonation can cause problems with my sleeve, so, no more Diet Coke for me!

Same here... I think I'll miss that more than any solid food!
