Nah. It definitely took me a while to get to the calorie levels my Dr. wanted. Don't rush. You will get there!! DEFINITELY watch your protein - and ESPECIALLY fluids. Other than that, give yourself time. You really will get there.

My daughter and hubby had VSG May 2011 and dr told them not to worry about calories cause they know you can not eat much, they emphasize protien and liquids. They say 60-80 protein and 64 ounces of water. Good luck to you and sip sip sip.

I am 3 weeks post op and barely into mushies. I would say I get in maybe 300 cals per day. I really focus on my water - which is still low. I get in may 30-40 oz of water per day, but I am pushing more each day.

Breakfast - Atkins Shake
Snack - 1/2 tsp peanut butter
Lunch - Shake
Dinner - cream soup
Snack - SF pops

It isn't much to speak of just yet. I am slowly adding mashed potatoes (bu****ching the amounts b/c of carbs). I hope to add some more mushies soon but can't find some low carb mushies...?!?

Thanks for your input!  For mushies, I am pretty much living on tuna, canned chicken and refried beans!!  I put about a tablespoon of light mayo in with the tuna or chicken.  With the refried beans, I use some cheese ( for extra protein ) and a smidgen of fat-free sour cream.

I am not sure at the moment how many carbs those things are-as I am not home, but I have stayed below 24 each day.  I THINK that is pretty good.

Good luck to you!

Hey Sherri,

You are doing great.  Don't sweat this stuff... Just make sure you get in your protein and your water right now, the rest will come in time.  At first it seems all you can do just to get the water in, keep trying, before you know it you'll be able to gulp it down like you did before - Seems to happen overnight.

Don't worry about the calories now,  once you are back to a full diet you'll get more calories again, then before you know it you'll actually have to watch them again too.

You are doing really great!

In a word - no. Not YET. When I went in for my first follow-up appointment I asked about calories, carbs, sugar, fat - all that stuff. Both the surgeon and NUT said the same thing. Don't worry about it YET. The important thing is getting all the protein and water you can. Think about the other stuff later.
