I had surgery the same day as you! I have been eating more solid foods for a few days now, but I've learned I need to ease into it. I have had delicious baked fish a couple of times and it worked great. I also had some great Indian palak paneer, spinach cooked with paneer cheese, which is sort of in between fresh mozzarella and feta (also both fine for my tummy). A tiny bite of rice and naan bread chewed well did me no harm. I've tried pulled chicken barbeque and other tender chicken, but I think it's still a little dense for me. I love the turkey chili at Einstein bagels -- the meat is ground up very small. Black bean soup also works well.

I definitely need more fiber, so I've had some oat bran cereal with skim milk and it was just fine. Scrambled and poached eggs also fine. So far I haven't tried much in the way of veggies. I had some spinach quiche that was fine, but not much else. I had a poached egg on a thin slice of grilled polenta and it was awesome.

I think if you chew very very well, you're going to be fine!

Congrats on your terrific weight loss! Good luck with your journey!

Oh, Indian buffet is on my list of "must eats" before my surgery. I'm afraid I won't be able to tolerate it afterwards. Maybe that won't be the case.

Hey there!  I had my surgery on the same day as you and I've been having the same fear.  I have tried to eat a few things, though, and ended up getting sick.  So I'm scared to eat.  I still try to add a new food every day so that I can get my protein in, but it's so hard to wrap my mind around eating.

Yesterday, I had 3 bites of a turger burger (without bread) and I immediately got sick.  I can eat a tiny amount of chicken if it's moist, but I'd rather stick with soup because I don't get sick.  I went to Jimmy Johns and bought an unwich (lettuce wrapped sandwich) and was able to eat 4 bites of the meat wrapped with cheese and dijon mustard, so that gave me some protein.

I'm going to try the peanut butter to see if I can tolerate that.

Cottage cheese was a real helper for me for protein. Still is.

I extended each stage by a week with doctors blessing (he said fine....better) You only get one chance to heal. I was eating a half a scrambled egg for a long time. Chicken should last.

Soft fish and crock pot meats are the best. Make sure it's wet and soft. Use soups as gravy.

I think that you are pretty normal. You don't want any problems.  So, take it slow. One new item at a time. You will know pretty fast if it doesn't work. One new item and let a minute or two pass between each bite.

Start with things that are not fatty and relatively soft or has moisture.  Definitely fix it yourself to control the fat. My friend tried his first ground meat as a burger from a restaurant. He got sick. He can eat a half of a small one now, but starting at a restaurant was too fatty. I want a meatball. In a couple of weeks, I will make my first meatball- not have one from a restaurant.

Im almost one month out. I eat mostly very moist baked fish...tilapia with lemon pepper. make a foil pouch to bake or grill it in so it stays moist.  It goes down easy..doesn't hurt, and you can eat more of it than you could chicken or a more dense protein. I am allergic to whey....so can't drink most all protein powders or shakes. I have to try and get most of my protein from actual food sources. greek yogurt (plain) is good..it tastes like sour cream...I mix it with some avocado and tomato(without seeds) ...kind of tastes like a mexican dish. lol.  also, beans that are well cooked go down easily and keep you full for a LONG time it seems, without being uncomfortable.

just eat slowly. you will get full quickly. you probably haven't noticed just how much restriction you have, until you start on dense foods.

Hi there Mom of 3,
ya know, I had not thought about that - not noticing the restriction.  For a while I thought my sleeve was broken or the Dr forgot to take it out! LOL  I could eat easily 1/2 cup mashed potato or even a whole small potato from Wendy's!! I thought what in the world is going on. But those are mushy foods and I just didn't put two and two together.

So tonight I plan on trying my curry chicken. I am scared but excited!!!   I will let you know how it works out

WEndy's chili or homemade ...a lifesaver. Yes,it is time for you to move on a bit.   less than 500 cals is literally starvation so you need to make sure you are getting at least that much every day. Good on you for tracking. You don't know if you don't track.

Keep us posted,
'h
