Questions about time frame for Mexico VSG

Has anyone ever started the whole process with an American surgeron and changed their mind and decided to go to Mexico to have surgery?  What kind of time frame do you usually look at when you contact a surgery center in Mexico?  Do the Mexican surgerons require the same evaluations that the American doctors do?  I have completed my NUT classes, Pysch, Pulmonary, Chest Xray, Sleep Study and 2 educational classes.  Any information would be helpful.
First off I am a self pay and am tried of getting the run around by my surgeron here in the states.  I have completed all of my pre-op evaluations and have done any extra testing that they have wanted and I have passed everything with flying colors.  In the last 30 days I have sent 3 e-mails to my surgeron's nurse asking specfically about how I to proceed to the next step, with no reply to any of my questions.  I need to find out what the hold up is so I am going to call the surgeron's office tomorrow, which is almost forbidden by this surgeron in his pre-op packet of information, it specifically states do not call us we will call you about surgery dates. They knew that from the beginning that I would be a self pay and I started this process about 90 days ago.  I know, I know, I know that alot of you have had a longer journey then that to get the surgery but I guess I thought that with no insurance hoops to jump thru that this would not be a long drawn out process.  I was truthfully hoping that I could have this done over summer, while I have some down time before fall and works rolls back around.  Thanks for letting me vent.

Hello,

We are kinda in the same boat, I have started the VSG process here in the states, and yes I had to put my foot down, because I am self pay, and alot of the test dont apply to me because I am not seeking approval from the insurance company... I have a pretty good physician, he is probably from a Mexico facility when you see his office and staff, so makinn the switch to the Tijuana physician for  half the price did not seem that outlandish for me... I am calling my doctor on Friday,, once I know I will get an appointment, airline/hotel accommodation for me and my spouse, and my passport,, From my information I cant think of what else I might need. I am taking notes so I will travel with the items that others made me feel I will need.. After speaking with the scheduler it appears I can be done by the middle of August, and not miss much of work... that is really important...  Trust me with these prices you are not alone in your thinking...

I'd find a new surgeon - there is NO way I would go to a doctor who forbade me to call his office!! Being a self pay you should be able to get scheduled VERY quickly. Most of the delays are insurance company delays - not Dr. delays.

Ok I was self-pay with the Lap-band...my experience was just the opposite.

The doctor was ready for me to name the date.  I picked the date 2/14/2005.  It was open and I paid the cash...DONE!!!

None of the "dont call us we will call you" nonsense.  If this is not a revision then find another doctor!

I had the vsg in mexico and I believe they don't need too much time in advance to book your surgery. Its different than here. Also all their preop testing is done there the day before or the morning of surgery.

I also went to Mexico and I believe it was scheduled just a little over two weeks from the time I decided to move forward.

besides this board you might check the Mexico board to see if others there can help you as well.

I called Mexico once and was told 2-3 weeks wait time.  I can't believe you are being treated that way when you are self pay.

I just got home from mexico...wait time was approx 2 weeks...before i go i had to send out a medical history form that they go through....you go to mexico, have bloodwork done, meet with a psych, doctor, anesethiologist, nutrisionist...etc....it was the best decision i ever made...if you have any questions let me know...ask a ton of questions...inbox me if you have any questions :-)
